We had seen the preview for Bandslam on the Twilight DVD and had been intrigued by it. This past weekend we went to see it and took our 7-year-old daughter.
First off, there's a New Moon trailer which made the whole experience worth it!
But on top of that, the movie is EXCELLENT. It has Vanessa Hudgens (playing someone totally opposite of the Gabriella character) and Aly (as in Aly & AJ). The music is fantastic, and it's on the verge of an indie type of movie. It has a wonderful storyline, and is edgy & cool but with NO cursing, NO sex-related stuff, NO inappropriate things. The closest thing to sex is when the main character refers to the Sex Pistols!!!!
All three of us loved it and are actually going to see it again this weekend. There is a sad part of the story that comes out towards the end, and that required some explaining to our daughter. Also, one of the characters has a death in the family. Those are sad things but really didn't damper the movie - it's a part of life!
Because the movie company decided to target it to the High School Musical fans, and because the New Moon trailer got released on the internet, the movie is not doing well in the theaters at ALL. If you look at the reviews, this movie is very highly reviewed!!!
Go see it before it's gone! I'm guessing they'll push it to DVD relatively quickly but w/ all the great music seeing and hearing on the big screen is definitely more cool.
