DH was let in with it at MK today. They asked him if it extended he said no and they said ok. He had it mounted to the Go Pro in the bag.

Was there a question? I thought it was known these were approved (as long as they do not extend)

There were reports of them being taken away even though they were on the approved list.
I've missed those. I am sure it's a case of folks not understanding what they are vs. them not being allowed. We plan to put ours in DH's pocket anyway. It doesn't fit in our case for the camera.

My son has the 3 way (he uses it mainly for skateboarding) but I wasn't sure if he could bring it or not. Does anyone have the link to the approved list?

I will be bringing a hand grip for my gopro this year, I really don't see it being a problem but would also like a link the an official list of approved items.

There isn't an official published list of "approved" items.

There is a list of prohibited items.
Just know that the decision at the entry will be in the judgement of the CMs doing the security check.
