Gnomeo and Juliet- why isn't Disney putting their name on it?

I heard a long time ago that Disney was making this film, and I was excited about it because I love gnomes, but now the ads are out and they aren't saying anything about it being Disney.

I thought maybe I had misunderstood, but then I checked and it says it was written by Walt Disney Studios...so why do you think they aren't advertising it as "Disney's Gnomeo and Juliet"??

I noticed this too, no mention of Disney in the ads. It is strange, :confused3 if I didn't know better I would have thought it was a Dreamworks movie. I think it looks cute, but I doubt it's going to be a classic.

Just like Disney did with Nightmare Before Christmas- they released it under Touchstone as they aren't quite sure it fits into the key 'Disney' values... until it does well and they embrace it back.

We will have to wait and see!

Gnomeo & Juliet is suppose to be made by Dreamworks, that's what the trailer said o.O

I have read some articles about the movie and the short story is that the movie was supposed to be built around the music of Elton John and they were having problems getting the story to work with the soundtrack and still work. John Lasseter basically kicked the movie over to Miramax because he felt it would be too hard to make the story "Disney enough" without completely reworking it (it is supposed to be a parody but also develop the characters individually). Then Mirimax was sold and it went over to Touchstone. This skips a lot of instances of the film being killed off completely but you get the drift.

Huh, I originally heard about it from Elton John (not personally, haha). Elton John was on a talk show and said he was working on a movie about gnomes for Disney and he was talking all about it (this was a long time ago). Well now I am curious to see if it is any good, they certainly got a lot of celebrity voices still.

Well they have posters up for it outside the Magic Kingdom. I noticed them this past Saturday.

I thought it looked like a typical Dreamworks picture...and in many ways am so grateful that Disney dropped it but shocked that they put Touchstone on it after all. I just imagine it being a total bomb...but good enough to draw the family crowd at least the first weekend. I love Disney so much and have been so disappointed by how they are losing the quality reputation that their animation used to be known for. It is okay not to release a cartoon every few months...
