I really dont know anything about gluten free diets and I want to bring a treat to a kids party that has 5 kids on gluten free diets. I dont want to cook (unless I have to) Id rather buy something pre-made. Is there a candy or other fun treat that is available in most stores?
Someone told me Jolly Ranchers might be gluten free.
I was sort of thinking something a little more special, but if thats all I can get I will put a handful in a fun bag or something for each.

Thanks for any help with this.
:)

I don't know much about gluten free, but the bakery section of some grocery stores have gluten free cookies or other baked goods. Our local grocery store has really good gluten free cookies -- I eat them even though I don't need to :) It might be worth checking out.

ETA: Just had another thought: maybe you should post this on the disAbilities community board. I know that some of the families on there eat gluten free.

Some of the Wonka type candy is GF. There are also premade cookies and mixes in the specialty aisles. But if you use a mix to make your own you have to be very careful about it to prevent cross contamination. We were doing a food test with DD a few weeks ago with GF and I wouldn't have trusted letting her eat something made in a non GF household. I would stick with prebought.

Some chocolate candies are GF but they are not Peanut/Nut free and with that many GF kids I would guess that some also have a nut allergy and there may also be dairy allergies. Make sure to check with the parents/teachers to be sure you know all the allergies.

I have a great list of things but I can't remember where I printed it from. Here is a list I did find:

I just bought a box of these fruit/jelly candy shaped Halloween treats at Sam's Club. It says Gluten free right on the box and is with all the other Halloween candy.

I used the list posted above for a gluten free kiddo in my son's class when making treat bags, I also hear popsicles are a good choice. I dont know what kid but you could probably google it. I wanna say Welch's. One of the moms brought that in for Halloween and it worked for the gluten and peanut free kids!

Dd7 has celiac, and Betty Crocker makes gluten free brownie mix, cake mix, and cookie mix, and they're good. I just printed out a recipe from their website, brownie/cookie bars, that has great reviews. For snacks, most potato chips are GF (not pringles), and we make chex mix with GF pretzels. FYI - rice krispie bars are not GF.

If you're looking for candy, I think Smarties are gluten free.

...how about a non-candy item, like chips?? Many potato chips are gluten-free, and you can get them in single-serving packages....another alternative is Kozy Shak rice pudding (they also come in single-serve containers).

Lots of great info and help here. THANK YOU ALL!
I will read those links and see what I can come up with, and if all else fails single bags of chips are always a hit at a party :) Great Idea!!
During my research last night someone said Peeps, Snickers and Reeses are GF. I wont serve those until I make double sure for myself though.

THANK YOU!

...the company that makes Cheet-os, Fritos, and Doritos (MOST of the flavors) , I think it's Lays (? :confused3 ) have gluten-free chips...:thumbsup2

Look at Enjoy Life foods. I love the Choco Loco chewy bars. They're kind of like a brownie, but they are a bit small. I get them at our local grocery store. Our walmart also carries them as does whole foods.

You can make Gluten Free marshmallow krispie treats, just use Pebbles cereal. You can use Cocoa, Fruity or Cupcake Pebbles but not the kind with mini marshmallows.
