Gluten free chicken strips?

My wife is gluten-free. We usually go to DW about once a year and always eat at the Columbia Harbour House because they have great gluten-free chicken strips. I'm looking around, but don't see any place that has GF chicken strips (or even chicken nuggets) in DL?

Following, because I also want some suggestions for gluten-free food at DL/DCA.

Also, any places to eat where they serve:

-Brown Rice
-Meal Sized Salads (with Grilled Chicken option)
-Fresh Fruit Cups
-Unsweetened Almond Milk as a drink

We’ve never had gluten free chicken strips in DL. There may be brown rice in dca at the asian restaurant.

there are places with fruit like pineapple spears or watermelon slices.

plenty of places have salad with grilled chicken.

No almond milk

I highly recommend looking at the menus in the app. Select the allergies menu. Check back close to your trip in case things have changed.

Back when I didn't eat flour I would get the chicken skewers at Bengal Barbecue. Or I would get fried chicken at Plaza Inn and peel off the coating. Other restaurants have roasted chicken, but I'm not sure what is in the sauces they use.

I wasn't allergic, white flour just didn't agree with me, so I'm not sure if these options would work for your wife. Alot of places have grilled chicken in other meals, like salad as someone above mentioned.

I just checked the menu at Bengel BBQ and the Bengal Rice plate with the chicken skewers sounds perfect! I can also get a pineapple spear. Thank you!

Lucky Fortune at DCA looks right up my alley, too! :)

We've never found GF battered chicken strips at DL. Wife is Celiac, so we're very cautious. Even if they existed, they'd have to be fried separately. And then my wife would still have to test them. Fried foods are hard to come by GF.

Can you eat soy sauce? I thought that contained gluten. The sauces at Bengal all contain soy sauce, as does the slaw in the rice plate. Everything at Lucky Fortune also contains soy sauce.

It's got some outdated info so YMMV. IF you do have good experiences with GF at DL, please post a review, or at least where and what you had. Also whether you're Celiac or gluten intolerance or 'just' a wheat allergy.

No GF fried chicken strips at DL. And not everywhere has a dedicated fryer for fries.

The Teriyaki sauce at Lucky Fortune is GF and last I heard they have GF soy sauce. The teriyaki chicken bowl is one of my favs at DL.

I haven't heard great things about Bengal as far as GF options go. I haven't checked on it in awhile but it used to be skewers with 'plain' meat, there were no GF sauces. So if someone has eaten GF there lately and loved it it'd be great if you'd post to the super thread.

As always, check for yourself when you order to be sure it meets your needs.

Thank you all for the responses!

My wife does not have celiac but does have a high intolerance of gluten. Eating even a small amount would knock her out of commission for the day so taking off the outside of the fried chicken or eating soy are a no-go.

Years ago, she just ate what she could- salad or a burger without a bun. As the world has become more aware of gluten issue, her choices have expanded. Disney World has a ton of options. I know Disneyland doesn't have the same amount of food choices but I'm surprised by the lack of GF option.

We'll work it out. We tend to stay from rope drop until close and we usually eat a snack in the late morning, a QS meal in the mid-afternoon, and a dessert at night. So she will probably eat a Powerbar then we can get a Salad with chicken one day and a burger or GF pizza the next.

There's definitely more available GF at DLR than salad, burgers and pizza. As mentioned, Lucky Fortune Cookery does have GF teriyaki bowls and a couple other things. Pym's also has some decent GF options at lunch and dinner (my DD really liked the GF version of the Pymini). Pym's doesn't post an allergy menu for breakfast but if you go talk to them they can do several of the breakfast items GF as well by subbing GF bread/toast (but not the french toast so don't get any hopes up on that one...though we didn't enjoy the non-GF version much anyway). WCT has GF pasta (as does Alien Pizza Port) and there are other options as well. Definitely look through the more recent posts of the Gluten Free at DLR thread posted above in addition to just looking through the menus online.

Agreed. I had been hesitant to book DL as I'd heard that there were so much less things available at DL than WDW, but I'm heading there in 17 days and have been pleasantly surprised in what I'm finding as options. Granted, no chicken fingers or nuggets (but now that you can find those in grocery stores the appeal has decreased a lot for eating out IMHO) - so if that is about the only thing she'll eat, I guess I see your point OP. BUT, while there are DIFFERENT options, there are still still lots of options I'm finding.

Soy itself has no gluten. Assume you mean 'regular' soy sauce?

Just about all the eateries at DL do have GF options and most of them are really good. Even the ones without the allergy menus normally can accommodate, you just have to ask. I'm not only Celiac, I'm picky too and I have no problem finding delicious GF food at DLR.

I do grant you that there are more GF options at WDW and many more 'sit downs', but then again there are FOUR parks to choose from. I'd give anything if they could do a Skipper Canteen in AL and a Regal Eagle BBQ in FL (RIP Big Thunder BBQ) and put in a Brown Derby at the DLH to replace the defunct SH55. OMG the GF there was fah-bu-lous!!!

I've found the 'snack' options are pretty much the same at WDW and DL. Not a lot of 'fresh baked' GF options. You're still mostly limited to packaged treats, fruit, and popcorn. And dessert is usually ice cream. Sigh.

Yes, I can eat small amounts of gluten, so I'm not concerned about soy or teriyaki. I'm actually more concerned about the sugar in sauces, and would prefer brown rice, but beggars can't be choosers!

The chicken salads are probably a better choice for me, but I need to change it up at some point! And anything is better for me than burgers, fries and pizzas (but not better tasting... lol)!

The salads are quite good at DLR. I like the one at Smokejumpers, in particular. It has cornbread croutons (not sure if those are GF, but they are large and easy to pick off).

Also, the Banyan sauce at Bengal seems to be sugar free. Its not even a little bit sweet. It's is spicy, though, with a dominant black pepper flavor.

There are also quite a lot of meals that have chicken or beef and rice or mashed potatoes (Rancho del Zocalo has an amazing grilled half chicken with rice and beans). Also, the pot roast meal at Plaza Inn is quite delicious. The Mexican options are often served with corn tortillas (the tacos) with rice and/or beans so that can be an option as well.

I feel like there are numerous options if you aren't strictly GF but just like to avoid it when possible.

Yes- soy sauce is an issue for her.

my daughter has celiac and we have never had problems with the asparagus/bacon skewer at Bengal. Just another option
They can do it with no sauce- just ask, plus we feel healthy since it has a veggie- LOL
