Gluten Free at Disneyland

I'll also post this question on the disABILITIES! board but I figure it's worth asking here as well.

Does DL have a special diets department like WDW does? If yes, where do I find contact info to get the latest and greatest allergy lists? If no, I guess I still need to know where to find the latest and greatest allergy lists. I know that things can change any time and the info in this thread isn't very recent plus we have to deal with more than just gluten.

Thank you!

At the moment (though it might change in the future), not really. Special Dietary Needs at the Disneyland Resort are generally handled by Food & Beverage Operations directly. You can continue to contact California-Site Disney Dining on (714) 781-DINE, and they'll be more than happy to assist you, or connect you with Cast Members who can.

Unfortunately, Disneyland doesn't have any allergy lists except the gluten-free one, so other than that, you really can't get a list of where to get certain foods without specific ingredients, etc. We have multiple allergies in our family too, so I checked the menus on allears.net and figured out where we would eat and went from there. You can ask Disney Dining for the contact number of the chef at a specific sit-down restaurant so that you can talk to them ahead of time. We planned on eating at Storyteller's Cafe and the chef called me ahead of time and discussed the allergy situation with me. When we arrived there, he sent one of the chefs out to talk to us about it. This works well at sit-down restaurants and they will work with you with whatever you need prepared. It's a little harder at counter-service restaurants with the lines of people there, etc., so we've never tried this, but I heard they do have lists of the food ingredients there if you ask. Because of the allergies, we get a delivery from Vons (Safeway) so that we can make sure we have a lot of foods that we know are "safe", and then we eat at a couple of the places that we have previously heard will work with us with our allergies. Good luck and I hope everything works out well for you and your family. :)

Thank you both. I'll give the phone number a try a little later (they don't open for another couple hours; I tried). My daughter is also autistic (yup, I know all about the GAC) so being able to plan ahead just what options are available at different places is important for us.

I'm going to make sure that my hotel has at least a microwave and fridge so I can get food (maybe order from Vons or maybe get my DSD who lives nearby to pick up a load of stuff for us) but it sure would be nice to be able to not have to brown bag our food on occasion. We'll definitely eat some of our meals at the TS locations and I'll make arrangements to speak with the chefs for those. I'll definitely look through the menus on allears. I just know that at WDW they have products like those chicken tenders and some places carry Enjoy Life cookies and Divvies (my other daughter can eat these) and I know that at WDW things like the popcorn are safe. I'm trying to find out about these kinds of things as well. Hopefully the folks on the dining line can give me SOME kind of info. I think I've been spoiled by WDW. There's a reason we keep going there.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for all of this great information. I always have a really easy time finding great food at WDW and I'm hopeful that our trip to DLR will be no different. pixiedust:

Thanks so much mechurchlady! I have some food sensitivities and even though I do cut loose a bit at DL, it is very good to have this information handy. I printed out your post and will keep it for future reference :goodvibes
