We are coming up on our first full year of my teen dd eating GF and she cannot tolerate any dairy either. So far she has only been glutened once, on a school field trip, not her fault. Otherwise she has done great and is an expert at politely ordering. I have booked some table service meals and noted her needs. I am wondering how close to our vacation dates should I contact special diets.

We expect to eat breakfasts at our off-site condo, with the exception of one DTD day where we plan to eat at WPE and stop by Baby Cakes. All of our meals are planned for early times. Most lunches will be counter service in the parks (MK, Epcot) with one lunch at Sci-Fi. Dinners will be at Ca. Grill, House of Blues and offsite at Orlando Ale House- we have eaten here a couple of times in the past and are happy to see they have a GF menu! I just read that Publix has a GF section, yay!

I've read through some of the threads on this board and appreciate any advice. Our trip is July/Aug.

I would go ahead and contact special diets now. My husband has been gluten free (and very limited for dairy) for almost thirty years and loves the ease and choices available in the the Disney and Orlando area.

Sshhh - don't tell him but I got him the Babycakes cookbook and donut pan for Father's Day. He really likes the Babycakes donuts and bakery.

Thanks Liz! WDW certainly seems to be very accommodating to meeting dietary needs. We live in an area with a dedicated GF and mostly dairy free bakery and cafe that is wonderful. I have checked out the Baby Cakes book and we are all looking forward to visiting!

I like to contact Special Diets around 4-5 weeks before my trip. I used to contact them as soon as I felt my ADRs were pretty much set but I've since learned that doing so means that I'm going to the parks with outdated info since suppliers do change on somewhat of a regular basis. Even with contacting them so close to our trips it still seems that there's always at least one thing that's changed since I heard from them but at least it's less things that in the past when I'd contact them earlier.

Liz, Please let us know what you think of the cookbook once you've tried out some of the recipes. I was thinking of buying one or two but the reviews seem to all say that the recipes aren't the same as what they use in the bakery. I'd love to hear your thoughts after you've tried some recipes out.
