Has anyone recently put glow sticks in their carry on luggage when flying? With all the airline changes to what you can and cant take I was just trying to figure out if we will have a security problem with them. I guess worst case they will just take them for us. ;)

Put them in your checked luggage. I was made to throw away a whole container of glow bracelets last December, due to carrying them in my purse rather than putting them in my (checked) suitcase. They only cost $1, but not having them once I got there was :sad2:

OP, I think you are right to question if it will be problem. FWIW, I have had some items leak so I would keep them wrapped and put it in a checked suitcase.

Thanks!

Unfortunately we are only taking carry on luggage this trip. I have always just put them in our checked luggage and not thought twice about them. I guess I could just try it and the worse they can do is throw them away. I wonder if you put them in a quart bag with other liquids if that would work?

I have took glow sticks on the plane, but I always put them in the checked luggage. I don't think that TSA will allow glow sticks to put in the carry-on bags when you go past security no matter what.

ive took them on bus no problem in my sons bag they never made us toss them i hope this wont be problem sorry to those who have problems.

I have not been to DLR yet - but I think someone mentioned that there is a Target in the area and they have the glow sticks in their $1 area.
Or maybe you can mail them? They don't weigh a lot so I doubt it would be expensive - depending on how many you mail it might be worth it.

Yep, 2 Targets. One a couple miles north of the entrance on Harbor & Orangethorpe on left and one a mile or so south on Harbor. There is also a Dollar Tree near the intersection of Harbor & Orangethorpe - right side, I believe. It was near the Character Warehouse (which, btw, was a dud last week).

If you have access to a vehicle, this may be easier. Great places to pick up snacks, etc for the week too! :thumbsup2

I've thought of this. IN order for them to fit in the bag, you have to take them out of the packaging. Out of the packaging, there's no info on what they are.

Of course, if the manufacturers would make them just a BIT smaller AND put the information of how many ounces of liquid the package contains, then we could take them in our carryons! (same goes for the tiny snowglobes...just give the liquid ounce info on the snowglobe and it would be good!)

We just flew down to Orlando 3 weeks ago with TONS of glowsticks and only carry-on luggage. Didn't have a problem.

Sounds like TSA didn't know the little tubes through the x-ray were filled with liquid. You were lucky.

Thanks for all the input. I got them to fit into a quart sized bag in their unopened packages so I think I will try and take them in our carry on luggage. They might not make it with us but I am going to try. I will let you know how it goes. We fly out on Feb 11th. :goodvibes

How about sending to your hotel via UPS? I am thinking US Postal might be cheaper with the one size packages for one fee. We are going to do that with some items including a knife to use, plates and bowls for in room breakfast and such. Let the Hotel know and plan as best as you can for supplies to get there day before you arrive.

Hope this gives you another idea

Patty
