Glendamax Report: "Oh why did I go SOLO"?

Hi there! Really enjoying your trip report so far. We'll be staying at AKV our next trip so it was great to hear what you thought of the room and see photos :D

Don't I look like the person you hope DOESN'T show up at a DISer meet? :sad2:

This line was totally cracking me up, hehe. Looking forward to reading more :D

Great report so far....and what a nice gift from your mom...we are staying at AKL again in Jan for Aviva's 7th bday.

How cool you got to meet so many people.

Cannot wait to read more.

Hi Glenda! You are so brave going on a solo trip. I don't know if I could do it so I really admire you.

That is really cool that you were able to meet up with so many friends on your first day.

As for the small food court at the AKL it is the same at the WL and I believe at the other deluxe resorts. I think this is because they provide other dining on site and it is a deluxe so they assume that you will be eating at the other restaurants and only use the food court a few times. Whereas at the Values/Mods they have to feed a lot of guests and either there is no other on site restaurant or there is only one other. That is just my theory though.

I simply love your room. Very cool looking and I agree that it is rather cheap/tacky to only provide paper plates and plastic utensils.

Hey Glenda!!

I'm in for the trip report :) Glad to see that you're "talking" to us again!

OOOOOO... G Max I LOVE YOUR TRIPPIES!! Can't read it all now but will at lunch!! Can't wait to hear all about your trip!! :cool1:  :dance3:

Still Day One!
Sun. 9/9

Finally after dinner, Fee and I arrive at my favorite park, EPCOT. Originally, the plan was to take her to MGM to see Fantasmic, but she wanted to see Illuminations insted.

When we got to the park, we had some time before Illuminations. The ride board (I LOVE that thing! Thank you to whomever fought for EPCOT to install it!) said that it was a 10 min wait for Soaring! Great! I was so excited since this is a favorite, AND it would be Fee's first time.

We strap in, the chairs start to raise up, and Fee DOES NOT LIKE IT! :sad2: I think the "realness" of it freaked her out. She said she was afraid that she was going to fall out of the seat. I felt soooo sorry for her. Everytime it got to a part I REALLY liked - like the beach, and river in the canyon with the cayaks - she hated it even more :sad1: When we got off, she said that it was worse than Everest. Oh well . . .

After Soaring, we walked towards the World Showcase. You know the area close to where the boat shuttle is that takes you to France . . . Well that's it. I found a little bench next to a souvenier shop. While sitting there, 2 women walked up to us and asked if we were a party of 2. I said yes. She said that she had passes to watch Illuminations in a roped off area. She pointed to where some people were linning up, telling us that was the area. She wanted to stay, but was waaayyyy to tired. I thanked her (and probably danced a jig), and ran over and got in line.

This was the first time I'd ever seen it with no one in front of me. It was GREAT!

(Last year I'd just gotten a new camera and was taking TONS of pics and video. I even recorded a good chunk of Illuminations. As a result, I felt like I missed out on alot. Therefore, I did not take pics nor video of it this time, and I took less pics over all. I know, I know, it makes for a less interesting report. But, it made a more enjoyable trip!)

Just as the show was about to end, Fee and I dashed out to beat some of the crowd. By the time we got to Spaceship Earth, it was a bit crowded. Now keep in mind that Fee is just a hair shorter than I am - so we can pretty much take the same size strides. When we hit that crowd, Fee went into TURBO mode! :teleport: One step, and she was gone! :teleport: For 2 secs, I thought I could keep up with her. Then when I realized that I couldnt, I rememebered that she did have a key to my room, so I might as well let her go.

Fee just happened to look back, and realized she'd left me in her wake, and she cracked up :lmao: I told her to go ahead, that I had a whole week ahead of me and could not wear myself out on the first night! Besides, I have realized that I am a slow walker. Miss Fee had mercy on me and slowed down a bit.

When we got to the bus, it wasn't full, and we were able to get seats. When we got back to the resort, I took another shower, put Dreamgirls in the DVD and put Ben Gay with vanishing scent on my feet . . . :cloud9: Ahhhhh!

Final Thoughts on Day One:
It was a great day, but learned the hard way NOT to use up sooooo much energy so early in my trip. Take it slow, and try to pace yourself! Also, Ben Gay is my bestest friend!

How cool that you got to watch Illuminations from a special reserved viewing area.

Your friend seems to have some serious PMS (People Maneouvering Skills) I stole that term from FauntleroyFAN07's TR. His wife is an expert at PMS.:rotfl:

The Ex. Everest picture was too funny. I want to know if you just stood close to ToT.

Yay! :yay: You're back and I can't wait to read all about your solo(ish) trip! You rock girl! :woohoo:

popcorn::

I'll take Fee's place ANY time on Soarin'. It's my bestest ride in the whole place!!! And by the way...you left out the part where you were (supposed to be) thinking of ME and riding it for ME while you were there! I'm sure that was just a slight mistake on your part, right?

Day 2
Mon. 9/10

Monday morning, I listened for the phone to ring for the wake - up call. I told Fee to answer it. I waited to hear if she would giggle. All I heard was silence. When I asked what happened, she said that she heard the tail end of a song. The next day when I answered it, the recording was messed up then too. Oh well.

I ate breakfast in the room: Oatmeal, Pop Tarts, and water mixed with Crystal Light's Immunity on the Go, Cherry and Pomegranate flavor. Very good!

We got to EPCOT about 9:05! Good timing!

Fee informed me that she wanted to try Soaring again. Now that she knew what to expect, she didnt think it would freak her out. When we got there, the wait was already 30mins, so we got fast passes and left.

On our way to Mission Space, we noticed alot of media. The astronaunts from the last mission were at EPCOT for a press conference. Fee REALLY enjoyed MS. We did the less intense version, but I told her that she should try the other side if she wanted to, but she declined.

Now here's what got on my nerves about MS: they blast cold air at your forehead during the whole ride. Maybe that's to keep people from passing out? :confused3 Later when I rode it again, I put a baseball hat on to block some of the air. It was really uncomfortable comming out of 95+ temps, into a small space with cold air blasting on you!

Next we went to yet another one of my favorites, Test Track!

You would think that since I've been on this a number of times that I wouldn't scream - but I do! I still love it!

Now I know I'm going to get the order mixed up - We headed over to The Living Sea to see Nemo. At first I was worried when we went in, because the line looked long. But it did keep moving. When you get to the part of the line where there is "sea" decoration on the ceiling, look out for the hidden Mickeys. Also, look at the screen to you right at the school of fish swimming around. They do some cool stuff!

After reading how disappointed some of the DISers were with this ride, I braced myself for some "super-duper kiddiness". As a result, I enjoyed it - esp. the part with the turtles :thumbsup2 If you havent seen the movie, rent it! It's funny and it'll make you appreciate the ride more.

We skipped Ellen's Energy since it was 45mins long. After all, this was Fee's last full day. We did Imagination - I love that song - then Soaring. Fee liked it much better this time! OH and since I had on sandals, I got to ride bare foot! Ahhhh!!!!:cloud9:

More to come . . .

Hey everybody! Thanks for comming over to my report! I was soooo busy dealing with the pics and putting this thing together, that I didnt notice all of your repsonses! I WILL respond later - cuz now I gotta go!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again!!!!

I'm glad your back giving us this semi-solo TR. Are you a DVC owner that you stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

Glenda, you are hilarious! I always find it so funny when I read a report and it reads exactly the way I think. I'm still laughing at some of your reflections..straight comedy. Cant wait for the rest of your report.

Hey Glenda! So glad to see your trippie has started!!! I haven't started reading yet but wanted to post...now I'm off to read! I can't wait to hear about the AKV's!!!!

Hey, I saw you! If you were at Epcot on Wednesday of your trip then it was you. I thought you looked really familiar but I was in a hurry to get Soarin' fastpasses and meet my family. I was hoping I would see you again later so that I could ask if you were a Diser. The whole 10 days I was there I didn't meet anyone. I was mad at myself that I didn't take a second to chase you down. And now that I know that you were alone on that day I could have invited you to lunch with us. Well now I know that I at least saw a Diser. Hope you had fun.

Hey! I'm jumpin on board too! Day one and on page 3, you are a popular girl.
I just wanted to share the fact that I am also six foot tall and completely understand the flight situation. Can't wait to hear more :goodvibes

Oh, Glenda, I looked for you and looked for you! We had 5529, but checked out Sunday Morning!

Nobody's getting their villa's til 4 pm or later. I had a few comments on that - if you'd had a regular hotel room, you could have got in at noon or thereabouts.

All studio villa's have paper and plastic because there's no dishwasher. I was surprised to see they had china cups.

Fun that you met so many Disers! I DID meet Jaycns, though.

Loner Weirdo, party of one....checking in here.

I can't believe how fast the replies have been coming in so far! I'm enjoying
your report, and I'm doing the "solo-ish" thing in a few weeks. I'd like to
think I'm having "special guest appearances" when people come stay with me
part of the time. ;)

I'm so glad I found your report! I love reading about DW trips from your point of view! :cool1: :goodvibes
