So we just returned from WDW on Friday and our oven stopped working yesterday! That figures! :confused3 We're not sure what kind to buy... we have the glasstop right now and it has gotten so dirty since we bought it. There are burns on the surface that we can't get off. Is there some sort of clearcoat you can put over the surface to keep it from getting ruined? Otherwise I think we might look into getting the old school burner style.

Do you have the ceramic top cleaner for your stove? When burn marks won't come off my husband takes a straight razor blade and scrapes them off. Does not scratch the stove. Have you ever tried that? I have had my stove for 13 yrs and besides some minor scratches I can make it look all clean and shiny if I put the effort into it.

I have a glasstop stove, and I find it really easy to keep clean.

I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cerama-Bryte-...SCTM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320848140&sr=8-1

I wipe the cream stuff on the (cold) stove top and let it sit for a while, then I use the scrubby thing (or a scotchbrite pad) to clean it. If there are any burn marks left on the stove top, I use the scraper thing with a razor blade to scrape the burns off. Then I wipe the whole thing with windex and a paper towel. I do this every couple of days and it just takes a couple minutes. My stove top is shiny and scratch free after 7 years. :thumbsup2

We have a container of wipes, similar to Chlorox wipes but for smooth tops, that we clean the stove top with daily. Then if something gets stuck on there we use a razor blade to scrape it off. It does not scratch off the surface at all.

Thanks! I never tried a razor blade (duh!) Great, I think we'll stick with the glasstop then... I just hate the look of the regular burners!

The stuff I could not get off with Cerama-brite came off with bar keepers friend. Awesome stuff, and cheap too.

I can't remember the exact name of what we use, and I'm not home right now. It's called something like Barkeepers Friend. It works wonders.

Cerama Bryte has a little bottle specifically for burnt on messes. "Burnt-On Grease Remover" It's only 2 oz but its not for everyday use just for stubborn problems. Squeeze a little directly on the spot and let sit for 30 minutes then wipe clean, repeat if necessary. I have the cream cleaner for day to day use. I would guess DH bought this at either Menards, Lowes or WalMart.

We have had really awful cooked-on messes on our glasstop, but they all come off eventually with a good, gritty glasstop cleaner and some elbow grease. Sometimes we have to leave the cleaner on until it dries completely.

I have a glass top and I've found that using a paste of baking soda and water and elbow grease will get off all the burnt bits, stains, etc. Cheap too!

I HATED my smooth top stove did not mind cleaning it I HATED that it took so long for the burners to get hot. 1st the burner has to get hot then heat the glass top.
