my dd10 needs glasses. She is chuffed to bits as specs are quite trendy now.She got a free eye test and a voucher towards glasses so I have only had to pay £9.95 ( a bit cheaper than my pair)

I remember getting my 1st pair of nhs goggles they were salmon pink plastic and utterly revolting.? I was so happy when I could afford contact lenses.

Does anyone else remember NHS glasses?

;) I had nhs specs...they were vile ! dd has got some cool barbie ones :)

My DS has had to wear them since he was 1, he really looks cute in them and looks so strange without them now. He will have to wear them all his life, he is 6 now and you can get some real trendy ones he has Mr Men Garfield and little gold rimmed ones. Hope your DD is happy with her new frames:)

I can remember them and thank god i did'nt need them then.
Glasses have come a long way since then and i had forgotten all about those ugly things

:lmao: We had the same ones here. I didn't need them (until I was about 18) but yes, they were absolutely disgusting. :rotfl2: I remember, as a child, if someone needed glasses, it was like a major big deal - probably because of those revolting glasses. Now it's not an issue at all thankfully. My eldest boy has worn glasses since he was 6 and it's so easy to get him nice, classy looking ones. Having said that, he's looking forward to getting contact lenses when he's 16. :thumbsup2 And what's great now too is that there's always the option for them to have laser eye surgery when they're adults. They might never have it (I'll probably not bother) but it's great to have the option later in life if they choose to.

Good luck to your DD - there's some gorgeous glasses out there these days in beautiful colours. Oh and my son got prescription sun glasses for our last trip to Florida and they were fantastic! Very cool. :cool2:

My poor hubby has the black NHS glasses when he was little - he looked like Joe 90 (aww bless him)

I think that kids glasses today are really trendy and are more like fashion accessories :)

I had the equally revolting blue ones  luckily my eyes weren't so bad then and I only needed to wear them for looking at the blackboard. My best friend had the tortoiseshell ones and even worse :scared1: hers had the wire bits that went round her ears. :scared1: :scared1:

It's so much better these days. My eldest DD has had contact lenses since she was 14 and the glasses nowadays are so trendy, there is so much choice. I'm really glad your DD is pleased with her specs. Seeing as both DH and I need specs, we've always had all our DDs eyes tested regularly. When our youngest DD was about 6 she was so desperate to wear glasses  that she burst into tears during an eye test when she was told she didn't need any!! :lmao:

I had a pair of pink NHS glasses, but I never wore them. My mum took pity on me and bought me a nicer pair :yay:

I remember them and I also remember being so glad that I had 20/20 vision:thumbsup2

yep i remember them too, i absolutely hated them, however DD was absolutely chuffed to bits when she was told she needed glasses and could pick a trendy pair Gill

I remember loads of kids at my school wanting to wear glasses as they thought they would look inteligent:rotfl: I had to wear glasses when I was 12 fortunately the designs had improved a great deal;)

Its great that your daughter is happy with her glasses Andrea:)

I was at school with Jarvis Cocker (Pulp) and he always wore dreadful NHS specs ;)

I think he was quite proud of them though as I remember him doing an infant school project of some kind on different kinds.............:thumbsup2
