my dd10 needs glasses. She is chuffed to bits as specs are quite trendy now.She got a free eye test and a voucher towards glasses so I have only had to pay £9.95 ( a bit cheaper than my pair)
I remember getting my 1st pair of nhs goggles they were salmon pink plastic and utterly revolting.? I was so happy when I could afford contact lenses.
Does anyone else remember NHS glasses?

I had nhs specs...they were vile ! dd has got some cool barbie ones
We had the same ones here. I didn't need them (until I was about 18) but yes, they were absolutely disgusting.
I remember, as a child, if someone needed glasses, it was like a major big deal - probably because of those revolting glasses. Now it's not an issue at all thankfully. My eldest boy has worn glasses since he was 6 and it's so easy to get him nice, classy looking ones. Having said that, he's looking forward to getting contact lenses when he's 16.
luckily my eyes weren't so bad then and I only needed to wear them for looking at the blackboard. My best friend had the tortoiseshell ones and even worse
hers had the wire bits that went round her ears.
that she burst into tears during an eye test when she was told she didn't need any!!
I had to wear glasses when I was 12 fortunately the designs had improved a great deal
