Glasses Prescriptions

We are looking to do Discovery Cove in September and my sister, mum and I all wear glasses. I have read that they do prescription snorkel masks and this sounds great. I know a lot of things are different between the UK and the US - shoe sizes, dress sizes, and I was wondering if glasses prescriptions were the same or different between the two countries.

For example, my sister is -2.50, but that's here in the UK. Will she still be -2.50 in America, or is it going to be more or less? Does anyone know or know where I might be able to find out this information?

sorry never been to usa so cant answer that question, but i got a pair of prescription swimming goggles from costco cash and carry they have an optical department for £9 per eye pretty good value i thought.

We went last August and both my wife and I need glasses. I forgot my prescription but they were very helpful in finding a mask which was suitable, Their masks are not the goggles you will get here as I used to have a pair thay are a diving mask type and are good to use.

Okay. Did you find that their prescription definitions were the same as the UK? Or is it a case of just go and try. My worry is that my current prescription is very strong, and that if their measurements are not the same, that I won't be able to get on that is suitable for me.

I think you will find that they will be able to understand a UK prescription. Also I do not think that we in the UK have worse eyesight than the US so they should be able to cater for you, even if it is not perfect it will be significantly better than no sight correction. Also as both eyes will be the same prescription in the goggles you will have to try to see what is comfortable as it is unlikely that you have identical correction needed for each eye.

Yes. Last time I had my eye test I believe I did have same prescription, but all the other little factors (other than the -4.50) were varying since I have astigmatism in both eyes It says on DC website they do -1.00 to -8.00, any ideas if they jump up in solid numbers, or do .50s? I am almost certain that either my wife or I had a .5 level.
