Glasses or contacts?

Last year I had my contacts and one of my eyes is weaker than the other so I tend to look a little cross-eyed in pics. Well, I haven’t worn my contacts in a while and I’m just wondering how everyone manages with glasses in the parks. Are they a pain in the butt? Should I suffer one “off” looking eye in pictures and get a new supply of contacts? Prescription sunglasses are part of my glasses option and it seems so much cheaper. Thanks everyone!

I never have a problem with my glasses. I just wear a glasses strap. I like the ones that slide over your glasses legs but my girlfriend swears by the ones with the loops. Big bonus is having transition lenses so sunglasses aren't necessary!

The only ride I usually take them off for is Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (and Hulk at IOA), but I'm hearing from some people that with a strap it's unnecessary. I'm a skip away from legally blind so it'd be nice to actually see things - anyone got any experience with them?

I got contacts for Disney. Honestly that was my main reason for getting them :rotfl:

I wear glasses 95% of the time. I wear my contacts in Disney and when I'm getting dressed to go out.

My biggest reason for contacts is I dislike having to keep track of 2 pairs of glasses (sunglasses/regular glasses) and constantly switching going from outside to inside and inside to outside at each attraction.

If you have the lenses that get darker outside I would be probably be ok with wearing my glasses but they couldn't guarantee that they would get dark enough for me to not wish I had sunglasses.

My mom has an eye that wanders and she tries her best to make sure it's straight for pictures and when it's not we just don't care (as long as she's smiling!)

What's going to bug you more- switching your glasses or a few pictures where you can see your eye isn't straight? (many pictures you won't be able to see your eyes because they are so far away)

I'll preface this by saying that I don't ride most of the thrill rides. Splash Mountain and BTMRR, yes, but Space Mountain, ToT, etc. are not on my list.

Contacts don't work for me (I've tried at least 10 different kinds, on three separate occasions) so it's all-glasses all the time. And I've been to WDW at least 8-10 times with my glasses. Never had a problem. On my last visit, the only time I took them off was Splash Mountain. My sister held them since she wasn't riding, but if she had been I'd just have tucked them into the front pocket of my backpack. My dad forgot to hand his glasses off before getting in line, so he ended up putting his in his shirt pocket and that worked just fine.

I do have Transitions lenses, so switching back and forth with sunglasses is not an issue for me. For photos, I just did what I always do and took my glasses off.

I wear glasses. I'm not much of a thrill ride person but my brother is and he just wears glasses straps. He's never had a problem. :)

i wear glasses everyday, and the only reason i even have a box of daily contacts at home is for disney and kings island.

i still normally wear my glasses at disney, but i prefer my contacts at waterparks and at hollywood studios. i normally switch between my glasses and prescription sunglasses which can be a pain, but i'm very used to it--like second nature.

i only have one pair of prescription sunglasses right now, or my mind may be changed about the waterparks. i try to be careful with these, but once i get new ones, i'll beat the old ones up.

bottom line... i prefer my glasses!!

Look at it this way....you'll either be taking off your glasses or your sunglasses. Either way, you're taking something off. :3dglasses Go with whatever is most comfortable for you.

I do ditto the Transitions lenses. My daughter has them (no way am I giving a 6 year old sunglasses to lose) and we both LOVE them. Just remember that it's magic that turns them into sunglasses and they must be powered up by eating your veggies. :goodvibes

If you do decide to go with glasses, I would also recommend getting an adjustable glasses strap. It will make sure those buggers stay snug on your face when you ride those rollercoasters and other turbulent rides.

I bought contacts only for disney too.

But it seems everybody here has only mentioned the thrill rides. I go to the amusement park with my glasses and never have a problem.

The reason I got them for Disney is because of the 3D movies and rides. Maybe it's just the way my face works, but those darn things NEVER stay where they are supposed to! How come nobody has come up with 3D glasses that fit well over a pair of glasses yet?

Whenever I watch a 3D movie with my glasses, I spend most of the time holding it up and miss a lot of the periphery effects because of it.

This is my main reason for wearing contacts at Disney. Also, I can't imagine playing TSM without my contacts, it's just way too difficult for me. Of course, there's also the added bonus that I only have to carry my sunglasses with me.

I wear glasses all the time, tried contacts but I've got an eye condition that makes them impossible to wear now.

I wore mine on nearly all the rides last year without a strap. If I was worried about them coming off, I'd just hold them in my hand (I'm not a fan of waving all over the place when I'm on thrill rides so I tend to cross my arms over my chest). What you have to remember about the majority of the thrill rides is that the speed (I can't remember the technical term for it... inertia?) is so fast that your glasses don't have the chance to slip off; they're jammed into your face! :scared1:

The other thing is - when I did take my glasses off - some of the rides are so fast and/or dark that you really won't miss anything not wearing your glasses (I know what I'm talking about too; things get completely incomprehensible for me about a foot and a half away when I don't wear my glasses!). The only ride you might miss something is Rockin' Rollercoaster, but the speed there does the job of a strap for you!

As for sunglasses; I have a separate pair of prescription sunnies and I'm not at all bothered about switching - though Transitions would be a great investment! I may also invest in a strap - for extra added security! - but, as I said, if you don't want to, you won't miss out!
