Glasses or Contacts

I've always worn glasses but lately they have been a pain and I was wondering about trying contacts.
Is there any particular ones that you would reccommend or good/ bad pionts I should watch out for?

I use both Tony, mainly glasses as though I feel as though there is something missing from my face if I dont, however I like the daily disposable ones, no worry about cleaning, and just take them out and throw them away.

Sue are they easy to put in and how long can you wear them, without them starting to irritate your eyes?

Well Ive been wearing them now for over 15 years so putting them in is easy, taking them out after a night on the town not so... just kidding mate, once you get used to them its easy. I can wear a pair of disposables all day and evening without them irritating my eyes as long as I take them out before I go to bed. There have been a number of occasions when I havent and believe me, Ive known as soon as I wake up that they are still in as they feel like golf balls in my eyes.

I would go along to your opticians, where after an inital test to see if your eyes are compatable for lenses and then a consultation where they show you how to put them in, take them out etc, they normally give you a couple of test pairs to see how you get along. I do like my lenses, but just a tip, the first few times you wear them,if your anything like me, I can guarentee that you will still try to push your glasses up your nose even though you dont have them on

Ever thought about about laser? I had both eyes lasered 3 years ago (especially for our first trip to Disney!!) and it is fantastic. Contact lenses were not an option for me because after numerous opticians trying to put them in they decided that they couldn't!! The price for lasering has dropped and might be worth considering.

I wear both. Started wearing lenses a couple of years ago. I use monthly ones from Vision Express and find them ok.

Started wearing them as I wanted to be able to buy nice sunglasses on holiday! Call me superficial if you like

I can wear mine for pretty much all day without problems. I do tend to take them out most evenings when I'm home. Cleaning is pretty easy and I found them ok to start off with. When I started they had a free 3 month trial on, which gave me chance to decide. Also, the scheme I am on with them gives me £75 off any specs which is nice!

I used to wear glasses (-6.5 in both eyes), I tried contacts but couldn't get on with them.

I've now had laser surgery (in 1996) and have never looked back

I had laser last year, it was a brilliant idea.

I never fancied the hassle of contact lenses.

I wear both - i have a quite bad astigmatism so have to wear monthly ones - i get mine from costco as i get better prices that specsavers or vision express etc. I get on fine with them although quite often i just cant be bothered to put them in when starting at 6am!

Im definately wanting to do laser aswell but as im only 21 the docters advised me to wait a year or 2 to ensure my eyes are not changing anymore.

I've worn contact lenses for about 30 years and have gas permeable ones at the moment. I would love to has laser treatment but is not an option, nor are soft lenses. Like others have said you should have a word with your optician to see what would be best for you

Hello We both wear contact lenses Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear by Johnson&Johnson. They are very comfy no problem to put in or remove and easy to take care of. We wear a pair for 2 weeks (take'em out at night) then bin them for a fresh set . I too have a bad astigmatism in my right eye but this brand make lenses to correct it without any problems. We can still wear polarised sunglasses with them when we go on holiday, we also just bought new glasses (new lens prescriptions for us both) with transitions lenses so we have a choice of what eyewear we use which is great So I'll wear my glasses at the airports and my lenses on holiday this year

I am the same - well only had mine for about 16 years (I am 33 years old).

My perscription is +6.5/7 (so I am not a candidate for laser surgery) and I have a bad astigmatism (so can't where soft lenses - includind dailys, monthlys or semi-permanant ones etc.)

So I wear gas permeable lenses. I wear glasses at home and I wear perscription sunglass whilst I am at the pool or in the sea (since I don't want to risk loosing a lens...)

Contact lenses are GREAT - lots more freedom and great for self-confidence. They can take a bit of getting used to (especially if you have gas permeable lenses), but it is worth it. I would consider laser if it was an option for me...

I wear Both.
I wear soft lenses monthlys which are great for when glasses get in the way or you are going out somewhere. They do take a lot of getting used to and if monthly then cleaning has to be thorough or you play the price i.e it hurts ALOT.
Personally i prefere glasses because takes less effort to put on glasses at 7am than it does to push contacts into your eyes. Sometimes it is like fighting a loosing battle

Ditto - but all it took was 19 seconds on one eye and 20 seconds on the other. I know this because the surgeon told me as he was doing it! Really i promise you not painful at all.

I wear glasses but have disposable daily contacts for holidays and the odd evening out.

Go and have a free trial Tony, I found contacts very easy to get used to.

I would love to have my eyes lasered but not only am I squeamish, I am so afraid that something would go wrong.
