Glasses on thrill rides

OOPS! I posted this on the resort board originally; it was meant to be here.

I wear glasses, and so does the hubs. Normally when we do amusement parks and roller coasters, I have a cross body or fanny pack for the glasses. If the ride doesn't allow bags, we place them in cubbies right by the loading area, which is not the way USO works.

The last time we went to Universal, it was me, my mom, and two tween ride-chickens, so glasses were never an issue. FJ was the only thing I rode that had bag restrictions, and I ended up holding my glasses b/c I was afraid of them flying off. Obviously, that's not a good idea on roller coasters.

This trip will be different. Dh is coming, and he and I both like roller coasters. We are both blind as bats, and I don't want to leave our glasses in the lockers while we queue. One of the boys has decided he likes roller coasters in moderation. The other might decide he likes them. If he is still a ride-chicken, he can hold my bag and our glasses while we ride. If not, what I am supposed to do with our glasses? And if our older son is going to sit in rider swap with my bag and glasses, will the attendant let us take them through the line?

Thanks!

If someone will be sitting in the "child swap" area, you can carry everything through the line, as long as you hand it off to the non-rider before boarding the ride. They will try to direct you to the lockers at the beginning, but if you tell them you are doing child swap, they let you go without using the lockers.
Could you get straps to hold your glasses tight to your face so you don't miss anything?
I don't wear glasses, so I don't know what works, sorry!

I too am blind as a bat without my glasses, and I've ridden both Hulk and Dragon Challenge with my glasses on my face. It made me nervous for sure, but they won't let you hold them in your hands. They were fine :)

I've worn glasses on both as well without a problem. As long as your your glasses have been properly fitted there shouldn't be an issue. If you have lingering concerns you can get glasses straps or there are plastic or foam thingies that you can put on the end of the glasses arms to make them extremely snug and they won't budge.

Riding without glasses is, for me, no fun at all!

Easiest strap and cheapest too is to bring several standard rubber bands with you, link about 3 or 4 together and then loop them around your glasses. They don't have to be real tight. I do that and also make a head band from a large handkerchief and snug it down around the ears, keeps glasses in place.

My husband and son both wear glasses and have worn them on every ride in the parks and have never come off.

Should be fine.

Good to know that no one has lost glasses on the rides; with the cost of glasses these days, that could be a serious budget buster.

4 of us have glasses....we get the straps to hold them in place. That way we don't have to be the first to lose our glasses on the rides. You can get them at Walmart or wherever.

Yeah, my DS rides Hulk and RRR and everything else with glasses on. No issues. I guess they fit well, and he has never been asked to remove them.

I also wear glasses and I usually take one hoodie with inside zippers so I can place them in it before I ride. For some reason I forgot to do so on RRR and I had to hold them during the ride for them not to fly off hahahaha. If it is too hot or you are not sure who's riding and who's not I do recommend adding the straps :).

I wear glasses and get a sports strap to put on them when I go to the parks as I got fed up not being able to see the rides if I took the glasses off! Just tighten it on and off as needed. Never had an issue :)

i too use the croakies for my sunglasses.
completely secured and never has failed me.

My glasses flew off my face during the final drop of Jurassic park:(

Don't do it. My husband rode RRR and lost his $300 prescription Oakleys. They never found them.

Are there different types? My croakies are fairly loose. They're for my sunglasses, so I like that I can just take them off and have them hanging around my neck. The extra material around the temples makes them a bit snugger while wearing them, but not so much that I'd consider them secure for an extreme roller coaster ride.

my croakies are tight against the back of my head.
i haven't had the issue of mine being loose.

OK, mine aren't, so I may need to look for some or plan on putting the sunglasses in the lockers (which is fine for the fast dark rides). :thanks:

I can't see at all without my glasses and trying to do a roller coaster without them would make me horribly sick. I rode a lot of coasters just holding them on my face with one hand, but then I bought a "sport strap" in a Sea World gift shop and it works wonders.
