Glasses on rides

My friend wears glasses and she is pretty much blind without them. Which rides would be a problem for her wearing them?

I remember a couple of years ago the CM at ToT told my mom to take off her glasses so she missed that whole show thing before the drop because all she saw was blurry flashes of lights. But she refused to take them off when we went this past year and they stayed on fine. So I don't really want to trust the CM's suggestions.

So, any rides that she would have to take her glasses of for so I can prepare her now?

Thanks in advance!

DH, DS & I all wear glasses. I have never taken them off on anything-- not TOT, TT or RNRRC. I'm sure a few people have had bad expierences w/ not taking them off-- but I think it's rare.

I never remove my glasses on WDW rides, no problem.:earsboy:

If I removed my glasses, I'd be totally blind. I've never taken my glasses off on any rides, and that includes upside down rollercoasters.

u no if she is worried about her glasses but still wants to see she can just hold them while on her head or buy those things that you were on sunglasses that keep them aroung your neck so if the y do fall off they will be hooked on your neck:cool:

I purposely DON'T try and hold them on while I ride! If it's a ride that's jerky or bumpy your arm will bounce independently of your body. I almost inadvertently pulled my glasses off my face on a ride one time when I tried that.

I wear mine all the time. Here's what I do:

1) Face forward at all times. The wind will push your glasses onto your face tighter. Looking to the side causes air to rush between your lenses and face and could cause them to fly off.

2) Keep your hands down... same for the person next to you. Side to side movement can cause your arm to smack your temples and dislodge your glasses in the process.

I wear my glasses - but I keep them on the holders that you can hang them around your neck. I look like a total geek because I have one pair around my neck and one on my face at all times - either regular glasses or sunglasses! I don't like the transition lens and I get sick of pulling them out of my fanny pack! I did have them come off on Space Mountain - but they have been fine on RnR, ToT and everything else. But I would have lost them if I didn't have them attached on Space Mountain!

Like many others, I'd be practically blind without my glasses. I had no problems at all, except on Kali River Rapids when I got soaked! I had to find a dry family member's shirt to wipe them off, LOL...

My DS (8 1/2) will have his glasses for the first time on our upcoming trip. We're getting him an eye-glasses strap that you can cinch up close to your head to hold them on. Similar to CROAKIES or the ones for sunglasses. DS brought this up all by himself, as he was afraid he'd loose his glasses on RnRC.

I wear my glasses on all the rides. I invested in a pair of Croakies (they work much better than the loop style retainers).
I find I tend to miss the beat parts of the rides without them - not to mention the view.

A a family we visit amusement parks all spring/summer/fall - I wear glasses on all the rides (I put my hands up on most coasters). My experience with using Croakies includes a S &S Power shot rides.

I also purchased a pair for bith DH and DD's sunglasses.
My one suggestion is to try the ear piece in the retainer before you purchase it - they have at least 3 different sizes (Jr, Regular, and Wide).

Most better sporting goods stores sell them along with outdoor shops (Hudson Trail, REI, etc)

I'll have to try those Croakies things. I'm always afraid my glasses may fly off on some rides. I haven't been to WDW yet but I usually take them off and keep them in a glasses case in my fanny pack whenever I ride rollercoasters at theme parks. So I can't always see what's going on that well since I have pretty bad eyesight, which can be good sometimes on those big rollercoaster hills! :p

I just got new glasses with Transitions last week. Haven't been in the sunshine enough yet to know if I like them but I have several friends that love them. I got tired of switching my regular glasses and prescription glasses back and forth when I'm out somewhere. I keep my old sunglasses in my car though, so I've still be using them there for now. Wish the Transitions ones got darker and would work in the car. :smooth:

The only ride I have problems with is Rockn' Roller Coaster. I'm short enough that my temples are even with the shoulder restraint. Thus, every jerk and turn crashes my frames into the shoulder harness. I just take them off for this ride and put them in the case. But on everything else I have no problems.

The only problem any of my family had with glasses was on small world. When I was a teenager we were standing in line for small world and my dad had dropped a piece of paper and bent down to get it and his glasses some how fell of his head or his face. Well this is back when he had glass lenses so they shattered and as he went to pick those up his sunglasses fell out of his pocket and also shattered. After that the trip was not much fun. We had to go get them replaced and at the time there weren't lenscrafters around. We found a place that did them quickly, but it was expensive. Needless to say dad wasn't a happy camper after that. Other than that kind of funny experience none of us has had any problems with glasses.

I have worn the transitions for many years now and love them. WHen I am at DW I always wear a strap on my glasses so they don't fall off. It has worked so far.

Like most others, I have always worn my glasses and never had a problem on any disney attractions. However, I do use a glasses strap.......better to be safe then sorry!:)

Sorry, a bit OT, but do you find that the Transitions lens change from dark to light quickly? I had "photograys" back in High School... um, awhile ago... and they took forever to go from dark to light when I went inside. Thanks for any info!

And back on-topic, I meant to mention in my previous post that I did ride Space Mountain several times with my glasses on, no problems at all.

I always wear mine without a problem... I'm blind without them =)

My mom is a bit more paranoid and takes hers off sometimes. =)

I'm a CM and tell my guests that if their glasses are loose to take them off. But if they're tight they should be fine. "Should" being the word. We have at least one person (usually more) lose their perscription glasses each day at my attraction. And usually they come back in pieces. Which of course doesn't make them too happy.
