Glass-bottom boat excursion?

I am going on the 4 day with my grandmother and wanted to do an excursion one of the days we were at port, we will be going to both Nassau and Freeport. She has had skin cancer in the past so I would like something that restricts exposure to the sun for the majority of the time. She can go outside no problem, but the beach day at Castaway will be plenty...

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has done one of the glass-bottom boat excursions, and what there opinion of it was, and if they could give me some info on what it is like.

Or if someone has another suggestion of a non-beach excursion, and one that would not take up the entire day.

It could be in either Nassau or Freeport.

ThankS!

We did the glass bottom boat at Nassau years ago. The boat has two decks (the upper deck exposed to the sun). They make a pass over the reef, then have everyone from the two decks swap places and go over it again.

We were extreamly unimpressed given that the glass bottom is about 2ft wide and about 4ft long, and is below your feet, so there isn't much to see.

If you like a plesant boat ride (where your not on an upper deck for part of the time), the harbar tour was ok. Not very exciting, but you do get to see a lot, as well as a couple of nice views of the Disney boat from the water.

thanks for the honest opinion... I was hoping to do something different then just heading to the Atlantis casino, but the glass bottom boat doesn't sound to impressive...

I also agree that the glass bottom boat was a let down for my family. It really wasn't worth the money, to us anyway.

I have to throw in a different opinion but on the Freeport excursion only. We went on the glass bottom boat last year out of Freeport and the whole family had a great time. The glass was way bigger than four feet. It stretched the whole length of the boat in two long sections. It was about 4 feet wide. We are a family that enjoys outdoors stuff. The day before we did a snorkling excursion out of Nassau but we have one family member who is not into that kind of activity. So we did this for her and we all had a great time.

The kids had a blast feeding the fish and watching the many different types. We also had a chnace to see some sharks. Afterwards we walked around and shopped.

We did the Nassau Glass bottom boat last November with the inlaws and our kids and to put it mildly it sucked! I was a waste of time and money and energy! After about 5 min we were bored and ready to go back! (In all fairness though hubby and I are avid scuba divers so it wasnt that impressive to us) but our kids and inlaws were NOT impressed either!! It was cold down in the bottom of the ship, rocking alot which made us sick.....we wouldnt do that tour again if they offered it for free!

Just our opinion....

I don't know about the glass-bottom boats in that area, but I wouldn't put my body on one from everything I've heard about them in Cabo where people have died because of their weak structure. Some boats also don't keep the glass clean or scratch free, making it harder to see anything let alone the small viewing windows. I guess I've heard nothing but negatives so I didn't even tell my DH it's an option.
