Glandular Fever .... help ! Updated !!

Today the surgery phoned and confirmed Danny definitely has Glandular Fever. I am now waiting for the doctor and the school to call so we can make arrangements. I just want to get everything sorted out now we know what it is. Although reading about everyone else's experiences of the condition has left me quite anxious .... I wish now I hadn't asked :scared1:

Danny is much the same. He had a rough day yesterday and slept off and on most of the day. His throat is still incredibly painful and then in the evening his neck glands became very swollen and tender and he looked as though he had the mumps - poor thing :hug:

We decided yesterday that with Danny being so poorly we would not go away for our ski trip this weekend. I would not have enjoyed it knowing he is so ill so there was no point really.

Sorry to hear the bad news :( i hope he recovers quickley :wizard::wizard::wizard:
Are you able to move your Ski trip to a later date?

My husband suffers with glandular fever. he's had it a few times, the first time when he was at Uni. he said although he was very tired he still managed to take all his exams and did well in them. although a few years later he had a bad case of it and was out of action for a couple of months.
he says long term, your son will need to recognise the signs when he's getting tired. with my husband his glands start to swell in his neck. this is a sign to take things easy and rest, if he doesnt the glandular fever is likely to flare up.
hope he gets a lot better soon.x:hug:

Hope he gets well soon and sorry you are not able to go on your trip.

Hope he recovers quickly.

Shame about your trip  but you're right, you wouldn't have enjoyed it. Instead you'll have it to look forward to next year now.

 So sorry that you had to cancel your holiday, I hope your DS makes a speedy recovery

Sorry about your ski trip, something to look forward to next year though :thumbsup2

And bad news that GF was confirmed, I hope your DS feels better soon:hug::hug:

Sorry about your trip.

I hope your DS gets better asap.

Hello I'm new here and just browsing but I felt I would comment here as I too suffered from GF when I was taking my GCSE's. My mum told the head of examinations for my school at the time and he told us I could apply for special circumstances which means the Exam boards will increase the GCSE mark by 2-5% taking into consideration that I was ill. (though this was in 2004, it may have changed)

So it is worth making an appointment with whoever is head of this at your sons school to make sure they take the illness into account and he recieves the relevent increase in marks

good luck hope he's better soon :)

i actually had this when i was pregnant with izzy, floored me for weeks, went to hospital twice and was on 4 diffrent lots of meds, it was all over the summer hols too, aaron had loads of time off, but i did get better after around 6 weeks and didnt feel so rough.

Thanks to everyone for all your good wishes. Danny is now feeling much better. He still has good days and less good days as we should expect really. He is better in the mornings but very tired by the late afternoon. Hoping to get him back to school for at least part of the day next week, but will play it by ear. The school have been very helpful, especially as he has missed his art GCSE exam and they said they will grade him on the coursework. Obviously he won't get as high as the grade he should have got, but hopefully will get enough "C" grades to get him into college next year. Also he can apply for special circumstances if he is still affected by this in May when he sits his GCSE exams. pixiedust: that he will continue to improve and get back to normal as soon as possible.

So pleased to see Daniel is getting better. He will be fine and will get into college.
