Well, we just got back from our first WDW vacation and had a wonderful time. We have twin boys that will be 5 in three weeks. We brought along two Maclaren Volo strollers.
Our plan was to bring them and use them "if needed". The first evening and the first morning we didn't use them. We were thankful to have them after that. The strollers were easy to use and great for tired kiddos - especially when waiting in the bus lines. (It also kept the boys seated, rather than hanging on poles, bumping into people, etc.)
The strollers were VERY quick to fold up. They also took little space. (I was able to hold one DS and the stroller while seated on the bus, leaving room for a mom and her DS.)
My tip: We used lime green dollar store lunch bags over the handles to hold drinks. We didn't have to take them off to fold up the strollers and they even held small purchases/wipes/ponchos. (The lunch bags held two larger bottles of water and held those paper cups with lids without any problem!) I also modified two bags to velcro near the seat for the boys' drinks. (When you close the stroller, their drinks would pop out though if the velcro wasn't "stuck" because the holder would turn upside down.)
Cost: We would have ended up renting the double stroller for at least 3 of our 4 night stay at a cost of at least $100. I bought our two strollers for $110 total and I get to keep them and share them with someone else! (We also ended up gate checking them at the airport after the boys had done so well in them at the parks.)
Summary: So, from a first timer to WDW and two boys that don't use strollers, we loved the strollers!!! I really think the umbrella type strollers are the easiest for the bus, but I also think that any stroller that you have and you find easy to push, would be worth the hassle on the bus. (Oh, and by taking your own collapsable stroller, we could take it with us on the MK train.)
