Looks like I am going to have to cancel my June and Dec trips.

We found out this week that DSD needs braces to the tune of 5500 bucks and I had to come up with 400 just at the initial consult for molds and x-rays which ISN'T covered by insurance and we had ALREADY promised she could go to Girl Scout camp this summer which is ANOTHER 550 bucks and then last night my dog got hurt and I had to take him to the emergency vet. You don't even want to KNOW what that cost. UGH.

So with ALL that plus the fact that we would have to renew our ap's in June as well I just don't see it happening.

At this point I am still going to try and go in Oct for the halloween party but that's it I think for the rest of the year and we are planning a trip back to DW in Nov of 08 so probably NO plans for DL in 08. Man I am going to be going through some serious withdrawls!!

Anyway just wanted to share. Thanks for letting me vent!

ohhhh, i hear you....we just put our second child in braces...my oldest daughter's cost us 5600 and now my son is 5700..we have awesome medical, basic dental, and NO orthodontal..my husband called from work yesterday to tell me that his T4 was higher from last year and he doesnt think we will be getting family allowance as of july.... This was what was covering the 220 dollars per month we are paying(plus we had to put down 350 plus 800 dollars in sept to start him... We were able to sneak in a trip just before his went on, but this year, sadly, i dont think we will get to go, especially since we are in canada and just buying 5 passports increases the cost of the trip significantly....oh well, at least our kids will have great teeth and hopefully my younger daughter wont need them....just wanted to let you know i know how you feel...hope u have a great day

DL-MAY 06-first time at DL for DH and kids , and my 9th(but the first 8 were all by the time i was about 13) so it was all new to me

Yeah life sure hits you all at once doesn't it? She is my stepdaughter and dh had braces but I have perfectly straight teeth so I am HOPING that our 2 girls we have together will get lucky and get my genes although our luck they won't. My oldest has a cross bite and my youngest is a thumb sucker who ALREADY has an appliance at 5 because she has such a huge overbite now.

She will be 6 in April and we have tried EVERYTHING to get her to stop. The appliance didn't even work .

The ortho told me if she doesn't quit soon even HE can't fix it with braces.

So who knows but I tell you between soccer, swim team, girl scouts, braces and on and on these trips are going to get fewer and farther between.

We are lucky that we live close enough to drive but even with our annual passes there is still the hotel and food costs which can get pretty pricey in high season.

Oh well I am really going to try for the oct trip and then we may try to fit a weekend in sometime in 08 but at least DisneyWORLD is still on so far for 08. That will be worth it I am sure!

Sorry to hear about that. I am not looking forward to those days as DH and I both had messed up teeth/braces and I just know that all 3 kids will probably be needing them at some point!!

Hopefully costs will be a little less than expected and maybe you can squeeze in one more small trip on your AP's! I know I'll be here in about 5 years posting the same post so I feel for you!

Maybe you can be as lucky as my DH and I are with our kids. We both had braces but so far the oldest DD didn't needed them. We actually had the Ortho doc tell us that he wouldn't bother putting them on her to fix one slightly crooked tooth that people can't see even when she smiles!!
One down, two to go!!! The prices are just scary!

Well now our trip in 2 weeks is off too. My mom's business where I also happen to work is really doing poorly and mom was paying for the trip but I can't in good conscience go now cuz they are REALLY hurting both personally AND at work and it is just NOT a good time.

So now the ONLY trip left of 4 for this year is in Oct. And THAT is all going to depend on how everything goes financially. Man I am going to go through some MAJOR withdrawals. I have never gotten 2 weeks to a trip and had to cancel. That is ROUGH. I have been SO looking forward to this but luckily we were just there in Nov AND 1 day in December so it's al good.

I am going to be dieing though by Oct but it will def give me something to look forward to!

I am so sorry your trips are cancelled. I am hoping the Oct trip still pans out. I don't know what kind of business your mom has, but I think the economy will pick up this summer and we will all be in better financial shape. Plus, like another posted said, maybe you can plan a budget trip and stay just one or two nights and still enjoy the parks. Here's hoping for the best!

I am so bummed for you! You have a really good attitude about it but I can only imagine the disappointment you are feeling given how close this upcoming trip was. I hear ya on the braces thing, I just found out ds needs them too, this after being told he didn't! Same thing, about $5800 I hadn't planned on spending in the next couple of years. Its always something! Just keep looking forward to that October trip, it will be here before you know it!

It is very frustrating when life gets in the way of vacation planning!

Braces are one of the reasons we just bought DVC! I know they are coming, and I wanted to do something for me just once before braces, because right behind braces is college!!!

We can all empathize, I'm sure! Ain't no billionaires hanging out on this part of the DIS!

Ugh, that bites. I'm sorry. I guess the only "bright" spot, IMO, is that when you DO get to go, it will be that much more exciting. We had to cancell our trip last year so when we get there in June, it will have been over two years. I know I'm going to appreciate this trip twice as much because I've had to wait twice as long! And I am not big on waiting.

My mom has a real estate company that is about 1 month from closing the doors if things don't get better. We are up here in Northern CA and for any of you who live in CA or know about the market I am sure you know it went in the toilet about a year ago and has just been AWFUL.

And of course I work for her so if the business folds I lose MY job too.

She did not want to cancel and said she had money set aside for it but I just can't in good conscience go and let her spend money that she needs for herself. That is WAY too selfish no matter how badly I wanted to go.

And as I said we were just there so it is not like we hadn't been in over a year or anything. We will live but as all of you die hards know it is my FAVORITE place in the world and going there really helps me get my mind of all the bad stuff and helps me recharge my battery but as I told mom I can't in good conscience go knowing it is going to hurt her down the road.

We are going in Oct no matter what but she said yesterday that if she changes the hotel with getaway she only has to pay 10 bucks but if she cancels with only 2 weeks to go we will probably lose part of the money sooo she wants to try and reschedule for July. I told her that was fine but if things aren't looking up by then then we should probably just cancel all together.

I DO want to go in Oct for the halloween treat and so if it means NOT going this summer well then so be it. I think she wants to go though because she isn't going with us in Oct and after that we have no trips planned till Nov of 08 so I think it is more about HER wanting to go LOL.

So we shall see what happens but tomorrow we are going to cancel feb and change it to the end of july. So wish us luck and whatever happens happens. It's no biggy.
