:confused3 I really want to go on a cruise in 2015 and it is selling out fast but the realisation is it will cost us $70 000. Dh and kids are really happy to go but it will mean no Disney until after the cruise purely because of the cost I just don't know if i can do it:confused3
Financially we could still do a USA trip in between just but i know i would not be happy going away and not having the cruise paid for??

What would you do if you were me and how would i survive knowing i had committed all our holiday funds to a cruise in 3 1/2 years even if it is a once in a lifetime opportunity????

:confused3:confused31 cruise = 2 trips to Disney!:confused3:confused3

For me it would depend on how much I really wanted to do the cruise. That is one heck of an expensive cruise, but I know that some of them out there are. I would love to do one of the really long Canada/Alaska cruises and I know they can be expensive too.

If you are happy to trade off Disney for the cruise then go for it. And don't forget that 3.5 years is a long way away, and you just might be able to squeeze a little Disney magic in that time.........who knows what the future holds!!!

I say do what you really want to do the most and if it is the cruise then just book it. Disney will always be there :goodvibes

I really don't know what I would do. In my position I probably wouldn't spend that much on one holiday but if you can afford it mmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'm just not sure. Where is the cruise too, how long for? That may help me make my decision. lol

I'm going to find it difficult to wait till 2014 for my 40th trip to America and I have a trip coming up in 8 weeks.

is that the Perth to Rome/Gallopi? I would loooovvveee to do that. But I get sick on the Manly ferry, so that won't be happening. Looks really good that one. A person at work told me about it.

:thumbsup2 Yes its the one from Perth for the 100 year Anzac celebrations.
36 days following what the original Anzac's did on a luxury cruise liner ;)

It is so expensive because we will need 2 cabins the problem is there is so many things to take into consideration :confused3 Ds 14 will turn 18 4 days before thought we would not take him or ds 16 who will be 19 then we only needed 1 cabin then he says yesterday i will give up my overseas 16th birthday trip if you pay for me to go on the cruise instead it is right up his alley everything he is interested in then Ds 16 says well if he is going so am i.

:confused3:confused3 I am concerned that where will they be then what if :scared1::scared1:there is a girlfriend involved that ends up being difficult:eek: What if they cant take time of from work:confused3

:rolleyes1 Can i give up the idea of a Disney Christmas with the kids and not going to the USA for that long is probably my biggest concern. This will then become my 40th birthday trip for 2014 as well but i truly believe it is a once in a lifetime trip and i have always wanted to take the kids to Anzac cove. I think it is really important for our kids to understand the sacrifices made by so many that allowed us the freedom to live the way we do today.:)
Kylieh i get extremely sea:sick: as well but everyone keeps telling me its not like that on a big cruise ship.

Hi,
I couldn't wait that long, but then I am not passionate about cruises, having only been on 1 Pacific P&O cruise that I didn't particularly enjoy.
I am finding it hard enough to wait 2 years between trips at the moment.

We did the dawn service at Villers Brettoneux this year which was truly amazing and spent a few days on either side visiting the French countryside of the Somme. So I agree that it is a wonderful homage to pay to those before us.

How many days are there at sea doing nothing? (I know there are activities but are you the type of people that will get easily bored with ship board activities). You could always look at alternate tours to the Anzac celebrations of a shorter duration but still immersing oneself in the history, if the length of time was an issue.

With your oldest two at the ages they will be it is probably the last big family trip as a nuclear unit so this would be doing it in style.

We just loved our four weeks in Europe and to be honest if we had of left out Paris Disney it would probably of enhanced the trip more. It was fabulous watching the kids surround themselves with new languages, sites and cultures. They still come out with things that amaze me, that they observed and thought about different places that we went.

I would forge ahead with this grand plan, the best plans often take the longest to unfold. Make it clear now, no girlfriends, boyfriends, best friends, it is just us going. Any girlfriends who would not understand the trip are not someone who should be a part of the family. And being such a unique experience if they were upfront at time of employment most decent employees would understand (thankfully DH new boss does for our December trip). It is a long time planned family trip.

We are doing the family Christmas this year in DL with my parents. Sadly my brother and his partner can't make it this time so we will just have to have another one. Disney at Christmas is spectacular but really it wont matter where you are on holiday as long as you are together.

Sorry about the ramble.

WAMUMOFFOUR, from a fellow West Aussie (I'm assuming!!) I couldn't do it for sure.....but then I couldn't spend 70K on a cruise either!! End story is if it is something that you have set your heart on, and you can afford it, then more power to you. Me, being a DVC member as well, means we travel to Dis World every 2-3 years at the outside, so waiting another 4 years would be a journey too far for us.
But as I said, if it's what you want, then go your hardest!!!!

:thumbsup2 Thanks everyone for your reply its great to hear perspectives from other people who  to travel as much as us and don't think we are crazy for doing it:rotfl: Oh and the good news is since it lands in Rome we will go do Disneyland Paris gotta find a way to incorporate Disney into the trip:lmao:

70k sounds ridiculous i know but there are 6 of us and we have 2 have to cabins and we are now looking at it as if we were doing 2 trips in one if that makes sense. I am still a little scared of committing to that much money as we have to save it the same as all our trips we have a if it is not paid for in cash we cant do it policy so i have to save save and save and not be tempted to just pop back to the USA ;) (yes we live in WA)

Thanks for your advice i had already said to the boys if we book this there is no option to back out but had another talk with them after i read what you wrote:thumbsup2 I would just love to know did your family not like Disneyland Paris?
I hear what your saying about holidays with your family and i would just love to have a Disney Christmas before we have all the your house my house stuff but time will tell if that happens.

i get sea sick so i am not sure how i will go but this is something i would love to experience taking my kids to Anzac cove is on my bucket list and to be able to sail the route they did to get there well that is the cream on the cake and i figure i will survive with the help of seasick tablets;) I must say that i am not looking forward to not traveling for that amount of time.

With all that said we have decided we do want to do this but we are wary of committing to that much money with the way the worlds economy is at the moment and we have not booked yet they are allowing people to book and the deposit is refundable till September 2012 so we put our name on the waiting list for a cheaper cabin and have decided that if it sells out or we don't get a cheaper cabin then we were not meant to go and if that happens that's fine it just means we will already have most of the money saved to do a trip to the USA.;)
I am so proud of my kids ds 14 already told us he will give up his 16th birthday trip if we take them on this cruise and then dd12 realised that we would be going in 2015 the year she turns 16 she told me she was happy to have this as her trip as well even though her birthday is at the end of the year. I  how much they will give up in order to travel and am so happy that we have been blessed to broaden their horizons seeing some of the world.

I think the waiting list is a good idea, see how it pans out. If you don't get to do the cruise maybe it would be viable to do a trip to Disney and a trip to ANZAC Cove.

I also would love to go to ANZAC Cove one day. Maybe when the kids are older and can understand the significance.

Good luck with whatever happens. :)

I totally understand having a family of 6 and needing to spend double on everything. :) Wouldn't have less than 6 for the world but it would be nice to pay half for a trip lol. The cruise sounds Awesome!!!!!

My SIL does not get sea sick but she went on a cruise for 3 days and was sick from the moment she left port till the moment she put her feet back on land 3 days later. Maybe it would be worth doing a weekend cruise with a friend to see how you go first. (Any excuse for a girls trip).

Thanks i think it is the best option for the moment as well and it is most certainly an option to do Anzac cove another way but i love the idea of doing this cruise so time will tell and our saving :rotfl2:

I hear what your saying there is no way on earth i would give up having 4 kids but i do  the fact that when we travel in the USA they are free in most hotels it makes life so much easier well cheaper than traveling in Australia If only the flights would be cheaper the more you buy :rotfl:

Not sure about girls weekend cruise but maybe a no kids weekend would do actually DH does not like the idea of cruising he says he can think of nothing worse than being stuck on a ship for days at a time :lmao:but is more than happy to do this one to follow the path of the Anzacs having John Williamson on board was a big carrot to dangle :rotfl2:

WAMUMOF4, I think that is an amazing trip, and how special will it be? It obviously means a lot to you and your family, and so if it is within your reach financially, it will be worth the price if your heart is set on it. Like you say, you can always visit DLP! Things are expensive enough with three, I can imagine that the extra little person would add to the burden!

Do you mind if I ask which liner you are going on and how big it is? (in tonnes). Most medium to big ships have great stabilisers and so the motion isn't as bad. Some bodies of water are just naturally rougher than others though. There are always drugs that you can take to help! It helps to take them before you get on board and before you get seasick. If all goes well, slowly wean yourself off them.

Either way, good luck with the decision! Hope the waiting list comes through!

Thnaks Shushh I am realising more and more how much it would mean to us and as areweindisneyyet said this really would be our last just us family vacation although we thought that the USA trip we just did would be that we told the kids their 16th birthday trip is the last one we pay for but this cruise changes that ;) By the time we would be doing this our youngest would be 13:scared1: that is a horrifying thought :lmao: we would have to save it unfortunately our numbers haven't come up in lotto yet :rotfl2: not that we ever buy tickets.
But it is doable our last 2 trips together have cost the same money and we have done them 11 months apart and this gives us 3 years to save it is just the thought of being restricted and committed for so long and not knowing what the kids are doing that is holding us back so for now we stay on the waiting list.

The ship is the - MSC Poesia and it weighs 93,330 tons I am figuring it should be big enough and that i would definitely be taking sea sick tablets with me and i am deciding it is mind over matter:scared1:

Here is the website for those who want to have a look www.gallipolicruise2015.com.au

We did enjoy Disney Paris, but our head was kind of in a different space whilst in Europe.

Now we love DISNEY - hence the 8 days of Christmas, but on the day we were there in April it was the coldest day of the trip and it was COLD, another layer of clothes may have improved our mood. It also seemed to lack some of the magic, the staff did not appear to be having fun, there was chewing gum everywhere and paint missing. Also there was not a lot of personal space in the lines which I have never felt at DL before. Please DO NOT Touch me when we are in line for 30 minutes. I do not need to know you that well.

We had a fun day, riding Dumbo, loved the small world version probably more than DL. The girls loved Autopia and Space Mountain was wild. Doing it as a one day trip probably did not help.

Hope this makes sense.

:thumbsup2 Thanks areweindisneyyet I understand what you are saying we met quite are few English people at DW that told us that DLP did not quite cut it so it is good to hear it from your perspective as well but in saying that if it is the only way i am going to get a Disney hit that year we will be going:lmao:

Will just have to remember to wear extra clothing and lower our expectations but i can say that after how we felt about the lack of magic at DW i think we wont have any expectations of Disney any where in the world as long as there are tea cups, Dumbo and a Castle oh and i better not forget the mouse;)

Oh WAMUMOF4! The MSC Poesia looks so beautiful!!!! I am now wishing that I could the cruise as well! I can also understand why it is costing so much. Do mind me asking who you are booking through? And who are you being waitlisted with? Haha, you might find us cruising with you...:rotfl2:

shushh that would be great we could have Dis meet on board:rotfl2:
You book with http://www.gallipolicruise2015.com.au/ if you go on to the website and under how to book request an information pack and they will send it out to you it was much more exciting to read the brochure and watch the dvd than read it online;)
DD12 and DS10 have watched the dvd quite a few times now.

We are on a wait list for a cheaper cabin if it becomes available they still have cabins in section 5 and 11 i think it was.
But the dvd arrived the other day and DH says we cant afford to wait he wants us to book now well as soon as we can the bank account needs to recover first :rotfl: and DS14 an 16 have decided it is to big of a commitment for them as they dont know where they will be and DS 14 thinks that will be the year he will go to Uni or have an apprenticeship so now they are very sure they are not going to go I would say we will book straight after Christmas. We wont be needing 2 cabins now so i wont be looking for 1 of the cheaper ones
I must say I am feeling slightly :sad2: that they have decided this as i had quite got around to liking the idea of another "Once in a life time" family holiday before they go off and do there own things:sad1:

Hi WAMUMOF4 - can I give my thoughts for your trip?

I think this cruise is a piligrimage of sorts and you need to think of it that way. Yes it's expensive but it sounds like it's your last family adventure before your children set sail on their own lives. You can't get that time back.

Now..... I actually used to live in Turkey and know exactly what goes into organising the huge event that make up the ANZAC Day commemorations (I worked for our Govt out there). It is unmissable. You do have to be on an organised tour to get anywhere on the day as it's a huge huge huge area.

If you didn't want to spend quite such a sum of money on the cruise you could consider flying out to Turkey and joining an organised tour there. It can all be arranged in WA with plenty of options for tours run by reputable companies. ANZAC fills out years in advance and the 100's will be even busier. Most tours take in Istanbul and then move down to Canakkale / Gelibolu area for the celebrations. It would be great if you could do tour with more than just Canakkale / Istanbul area as Turkey is an amazingly diverse country. You will be welcomed by the Turks in a way that's phenominal when you get to Turkey if you are an Aussie or Kiwi. They are just as proud of the ANZACs as we are. The battle shaped three nations and their commander in chief Ataturk said :

Heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives! You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

We are already considering taking our family to Turkey for the celebrations and to see where Mummy lived, worked and had big adventures - our kids will be eight though and a whole different set of logistics to organise.

For me, I'd hold out for this amazing experience be it by land or flying in. I'll probably get shot down a bit but Disney is Disney, it will be there in the future and while it might seem unobtainable while you are saving for your ANZAC cruise, you know it will be bigger and better when you get back in time. ANZAC is something beyond what you can imagine. PM me at any time if you want any information on Turkey and what it's like to travel there and what I'd recommend seeing if you decide to spend more time in the country.

:hug:Thank you so much for your thoughts they are awesome we have looked at other options as well and to be honest the cruise seems to be the best value and to be able to travel the same route that those who helped shape our country did on the 10th anniversary is something we consider an honour.
Our 2 oldest DS 14 and 16 have definatley decided they are not coming as it is just to be a of a commitment whilst DH and I are extremely proud of their responsible decision we are also :sad2: So we are thinking that we may send them on a tour when they are a bit older so that they don't entirely miss out. Anzac cove has always been on our never ending bucket list. We are going to book but probably not till January we are in the process of buying a car and depending on how much that is will determine when we book.
