Women make such a big thing of the pain and suffering involved in giving birth, but that's what their bodies are designed for.

I remember some years ago a story about a woman in Bangladesh, who because of a flood, had to give birth up a tree. Up a tree for goodness sake!!

Is it that western women are just weak and pampered?

I just don't get what all the fuss is about.

Once you've pushed an 8lb ball through your 'equipment', we'll talk.

I take it you're speaking from personal experience, right? So, how many births have you personally experienced? :smooth: :smooth:

My first DD was over 10 lbs. Yeah, it hurt like hell.

I've seen three born and to be honest, it didn't make good viewing. The results are ok, but the fuss during the birth was, quite frankly, unpleasant.

All I have to say is I have passed a few well many Kidney stones. And after seeing them under a microscope feeling pain like no other and watching DD born .

I feel for you ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Giving birth is like trying to push a St. Bernard through a Chihuahua's doggy door.

Nah, they drug you up so you are nice & numb, then they take a nice sharp knife & cut you up.

And then they announce "It's a boy" for baby #2 & "It's a girl" for baby #3.

But for baby #1 I can't tell you because it would be too offensive. But let's just say, back labor, back door pain, extreme back door pain, wire brush scratching the back door (granted I never had that experience but that is what I thought it felt like). But the pushing-no.

Not that you really wanted to know but there.

Carol Burnett described giving birth as being similar to having your bottom lip pulled over the top of your head...others say it's like pushing a water melon through a hole the size of a lemon...or that, if men had ot gi ve birth we'd have zero population growth...

all I can say is...when I gave birth to my younger dd, my epidural wore off just before I went from the labor room to the delivery room, I gav e birth without medication...and after dd was born and the doctor offered me a little demerol "to take the edge off"...I could have kissed him.

Well, kidney stones are naturally occurring too. Let me see you pass a kidney stone the size of a golf ball out your male anatomy, in a tree, without medication, and without screaming and I'll happily take on the title of the weaker sex.

When that happens, or when you deliver twins the "V" way, fifteen minutes apart using forceps, suction and then almost needing a transfusion you should call me.

I think it is very different for every woman. I've had one regular birth (10lb.5oz) and C-section (5lb 10oz) and I tell ya...I would rather have a 10 pounder regular birth than a C-section any day. But that is just me. I know woman who cringe at the thought of such a huge baby coming out of..."there" :teeth:

IMO I think it all about what is best for the Mom and baby's health.

As far as being wimps...Anyone who has gone through 9 months of pregnancy and childbirth (of any kind) should not be called a wimp!!! EVER!! :teeth:

Seeing it and actually doing it are two different things. Yoru comments make it blatently obvious that you've never experrienced so much as a labor pain let alone full blown childbirth. Come back when you have and then we'll talk. :thumbsup2

OH and by the way - 3 births - 10 hours, 24 hours and 31 hours. Last one without any pain meds.... I've paid my dues and earned the right to say it hurts like he**!

My granny could shoot them out like watermelon seeds! However, when I was pregnant with my one and only (who is an only because it hurt giving birth) I asked granny what giving birth felt like. She told me it would be like God was really mad at me and struck my butt with lightening as punishment.

She was right.

OK, I'll jump in...

I've given birth twice. Neither time was what I'd call comfy, but certainly the experience was not terrifying or so horrific that I wouldn't repeat it. I can see why no one is exactly chomping at the bit to get to the labor & delivery room, but the reward at the end of that job is WELL worth the trouble.

And with an epidural, it's an absolutely manageable pain.

Anyone else care to chime in?

It's nice to hear an honest answer.
