IF (and that's a big IF) I wanted to give someone 25 points as a gift, would it be better to do a 25 point add on to my own contract and then change the names OR try to buy a 25 point contract in their name from a reseller?

Does the recipient already have some points? I'm wondering since 25 points won't go too far and they would be responsible for the yearly ME's.
I'm thinking you wouldn't be able to buy it in their name since it has to be legal.

Yearly MFs wouldn't be a problem for them. And no, they do not already have points, but would probably bank and borrow and go every other year or so. I was thinking maybe if I started the process and just put everything in their name that would work. That wouldn't work if I purchased thru Disney though. I'm kinda thinking aloud here.....

Not sure, but your gift may not be possible b/c of ROFR. If you buy 25 points and then go to transfer the ownership, Disney can buy back the contract at the same rate as the new "buyers". At $0 per point, it's a pretty good bet that Disney will exercise ROFR.

The new owners may have to "buy" the 25 points at a reasonable price and then you can give them a gift of cash, or something like that. You may want to consult a lawyer who is knowledgeable about such things.

hmmmm did not think about ROFR.....I know they want the points. Maybe just give them the cash and point them in the right direction.

I think that's the best option. Buying real estate for someone else seems unnecessarily complex. If you want to surprise the person, or make it seem a little more festive, you can make up your own gift certificate, and do something creative with the packaging or presentation.
