Give me Wild Africa Trek tips

I just booked Wild Africa Trek for May. I have always wanted to do this and I am soooooo excited. It will be my husband and I (60 ish) and two 23 year olds. Any tips will be appreciated

First half of the tour is very...mobile. As long as you don't have any issues, it's fine.

Without spoiling too much, be prepared to overcome any fear of heights. You're safe but this particular part of the experience is designed to make you feel a little uneasy (and they take candid photos of it!).

It's one of my favorite experiences and the heights portion, even though I have a slight fear of them, was one of the most memorable.

Wear comfortable shoes. They have lockers for all your stuff but you can carry your phone if it has a way to be clipped to your vest or you have a lanyard to wear it around your neck. Enjoy. We did it and had a blast, even my height nervous son. It's just about the only extra experience (other than diving in the living seas) that we have talked about repeating.

Since you will be clipped into harnesses for the first half, shorter shorts might be uncomfortable.

Use the bathroom before the tour starts -- no bathrooms for the first half.

Let your guide know what animals you want to see most -- they have some flexibility with the safari tour portion to pause longer in some areas.

They take lots of pictures and the download code access is included in the tour price.

We loved our tour!

We went in May last year and it was a lovely experience. They took lots of photos, group and candid and animal shots, which as mentioned above, you access via a code and you can choose the ones you want to download and save on your devices. They can linger on some animals if you want, we had an extended encounter with a giraffe named Stella. It was awesome. Only tip i have besides have fun is to probably wear darker colored shorts, i had light colored shorts and the harness, which goes around your legs where they meet your hips left dark marks, nothing that everyone in the world would notice glancing at you, but something to keep in mind

Don't worry about taking pics with your phone. They take a TON and they were really good. Also, ask them to get pics of your group--they are happy to do it! I am always the one taking pics when we travel and never have a ton with me in them.

The guides are very knowledgeable so ask any question you can think of!

Have fun with the others on your tour. We had a couple of cast members on our tour--doing it on their off day.

I loved the snack/meal. Because of this, we just did Savor the Savanna in November. It is like Wild Africa Trek "lite".

Wild Africa Trek was one of our best memories of Disney!

Best tour ever! They do stop when something interesting comes up . On our tour the rhinos were wallowing in the mud right by our vehicle. Very cool. Enjo!

I second the no short shorts. When we did it I wore long shorts (to knee) and I was comfortable. Another woman on the tour had on regular shorts (5” inseam maybe) and once she put on the harness they became ver short shorts, riding up. I felt bad for her & more so for her teen son who got to see more of his mom than he probably wanted to. 😝

One more addition: make sure you have a good camera/phone (well charged!) As said above the guides take tons of fantastic pics. Lunch is wonderful right on the savannah.

Oh oh this tour was one of my favorite things at Disney. Tips hmmm don’t worry about the bridge. I’am afraid of heights and worried about it. I worried for no reason, it was not that scary. They have a harness on you and the bridge is sturdy even though it doesn’t look like it. Wear tennis shoes, not short shorts because the harness will make them go up higher lol and wear sun glasses. Most of all have fun and enjoy!

Thinking about doing this, but I don't think there is a single thing we would eat during the snack.

We have this booked for 3 of us in April. Do we tip the tour guides after the trek? Just want to make sure.
Thanks!

As far as I know, you don’t have to tip. We had a group of 9 and it was divided into 4 separate families and no one tipped nor was it hinted at or suggested.

We had the same concern. My picky-eater daughter and I both had the "kids'" snack option (requested when booking the tour in advance) and it didn't involve any exotic foods. (I'm pretty sure that one of the features in the kids' version was M&Ms). The kids' snack was good and the tour was great.

I'm super jealous that you daughter got M&M's 😅

This was a blast when I did it. They do strap you into a lot of gear that you have to carry around. They will provide you with a water bottle that clips to your harness to stay hydrated. You won't have to worry about taking too many photos because they take a ton for you.

Good to know, thank you!

Do you remember what was in the kids snack? Our son is very picky. I thought we would just bring a bar for him; however, he might like what's in the kids. Thanks
