I know it's a little farther out than Orlando, but can someone recomend a nice beach for the family? On the Atlantic side?

Our last 4 trips down we stop one night in Daytona...this year there is a big "to do" in Daytona the week we're going, hotels are booked and we'd rather avoid huge crowds...

We pass Ormond Beach comming in...does anyone have any thoughts? Any place you'd avoid? TIA...

Ormond beach is to close to daytona - so both would be crowded - how about St Augustine?

At this point I think most of the Atlantic beaches you have mentioned are dealing with beach erosion issues. They have been pretty battered by the hurricanes.

safetymom--

you might have just answered the question that I was just coming to post. Is there a place to check the condition of the Atlantic beaches? Are they all in bad shape...the ones within 60-90 minutes of WDW?

WHat about the gulf beaches? I hadn't really considered them, since they are farther, but if Clearwater's in better shape, it might be something to think about.

maybe I'll just budget for a day at Typhoon Lagoon, instead. That will give my boys their "wave" fix, LOL!

I should add that I am looking at a beach day around the first of October, in less than 3 weeks. I'm sure that might make a difference.

I don't know of any places to check the beach conditions in FL. The Gulf beaches have been affected by the Hurricanes also.

Lots of problems with the sand washing away. I doubt that will be fixed for awhile.

:(

that's what I was afraid of. We initially booked this trip a few weeks ago, after we decided that we didn't want to go to Destin, on the off chance that another hurricane would hit the area. We booked this week to Orlando after Charley, but before Frances and Ivan.

A day trip to the beach isn't a must-do...I think we'll do a water park, I don't think my boys will mind, LOL!

Thanks!

Ohioan here...wasn't even thinking about beach erosion... We worry when the corn field is under water, but it eventually dries out!
What are the consequences of beach erosion and how long term are they? We aren't going till the end of November. Since you mentioned it, I'm guessing the problem will still be an issue then?

By your post, I'm guessing you must drive. I'm a Floridian who has never been to Ohio, but hope to go this summer, on my DS's(12) request. Anyway, where do you hit I-95 at? This could help us to give you some suggestions for nice beaches in maybe SC or GA. If you're interested, let us know and I for one would be glad to try to help. In the mean time, I'll try to ask around about beach erosion in St. Augustine. :)

Sister lives in St. Augustine. I was there a couple of weeks ago to see the beach they replenished a couple of years ago. She sent pictures after the hurricane and a lot of it is gone.

There may be areas where it isn't so bad.
