Give a Day Get a Day - Disappointed

There are actually lots in my area. Most though are for over 18. DD is almost 13. I found one for age 12. Cleaning horse stalls. I think ok for her but no way for me for 8 hours. Actually I think she would kill me after that day and we would never make it to Disney:lmao:

Anyone know how many volunteer hours constitutes a "day"? I looked into the options for our area and most of the things that the kids could do with me are only 3 or 4 hours. I assume you have to do more than that to get the ticket, but I wonder exactly how many hours are required.

How many hours do I have to volunteer to get my free ticket? (A full day? / half-day?)

While there is no specific minimum number of hours, you must complete one of the eligible volunteer opportunities or projects available through the "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day." program.

Well, theres 791 opportunities in my area which covers a tri state area of NJ, PA and DE. Some are based out of urban areas.

There are 708 places in my area--does anyone know how a place joins this? My daughter and I already volunteer hundreds of hours a year but the place we do it is not on the list.

There are many for the Red Cross, Emergency services, Habitate for humanity, domestic violence center for data entry minimum age 15, Baby sitter course, therapy dogs, also a local state park clean up that has no minimum age.

I would check at local food banks, and Commision on Economic oppertunity

Maybe it is not an updated list. There has to be 100 within 30 miles. We are fairly rurual. Call some of these agencies and inquire their participation,

A lot has to do with insurance., We have an after school program and I can not even accept a 14 yr old into it due to sexual related lawsuits exposing kids to other adolecents, and adults.....

After you do the service how does the credit work, a voucher given, do you print something to take with you?

I'm the Disney co-ordinator for an animal rescue group (Co-chair of the volunteer committee next year) and I haven't posted ANY opportunities yet. January is when we have our annual meeting, so I'm waiting for that to be over to post. Also, I'm a bit nervous about doing so.

Anyway, if someone saw our NAME on the network and CALLED us about volunteer opportunities, I'd likely find that person something to do to earn their Disney day. But we don't have any actual opportunities posted. The only problem is in "making work" for kids. There's not a lot that kids under the age of 16 can do for us. Their parents, OTOH. . .oh, I've got plenty adults can do. Wanna come to a TNR party or help with a spay day or volunteer at adoption day?

That's good to hear that a lot of opportunities aren't posted yet. I'm looking for something for a 6 yo (DGD). My DSD doesn't do any sort of volunteer opportunities with her so I'm anxious to get her to volunteer. In fact, all 6 of us are going to volunteer even though myself, DH and DD have annual passes. My 2 DSDs and 1 DGD are going to earn their ticket for WDW, and hopefully learn something in the process. :thumbsup2

I'd love to help at your spay/adoption day but I'm in NJ. Good luck!!

Hmm....not a lot for folks under 18 in my area (and my area starts at about 50 miles away). However, one thing they list is GS Troop Leader. It isn't our Council though. I wonder if it would work for any registered troop leader or if there is a reason only certain councils are listed.

I was doing some preliminary checking for the opportunities available in my area with the network Disney is using. Out of 26 pages of opportunities less than five will work for my family and there were no opportunities for children under 12. (I live in the Dallas area - not a small town by any means)

I have a 15, 13, and 12 year old and I was really looking forward to volunteering together, but this may be harder than I thought.
12 year olds are not 'under 12'.

I hope this helps.

I live in no where PA.. there are 367 things listed all ages.. a lot for 55 and up?

There were 551 things listed in my area. I am sure we will be able to find something, but I am not expecting my DD to be able to do it! She is only 2.5! :goodvibes

And at 2.5 she doesn't need a ticket anyway. :goodvibes She's beautiful by the way (but I bet you already knew that ;)).

My youngest will actually be 13 in two weeks. So there are five opportunities for us.

However, if someone were in the Dallas area and had an 8, 9, and 10 year old there wouldn't be any opportunities that they could volunteer for as a family because everything listed is for 12 and over.

I guess I could have phrased that better in my original post. ;)

I would guess that the person that did the voluteer work would have to be the one to get the ticket and that it could't be transferred to another person. Be sure to check on this before you count on it.

Wow, I typed in my zip code and 193 opportunities came up.

You must live in a larger state and a more metropolitan area. It is the smaller states like NM, SD, etc that are being left out in the cold.

That is cool for you though, hope you can take advantage of it

Yes, I live in the Fort lauderdale/Miami area.

This program is weighted a bit unfairly for those in less urban areas.

i live in rural, NE alabama, and there are NO opportunities within 40 miles of here. this is very disappointing :( i hope there are more agencies listed after the 1st.

Closest to me is 1.5 hours away and there was nothing listed that would work for our whole family--VERY disappointed. Oh well, we will just continue what we are participating in locally.

I hope so
The ONE listed in my area (Boise Idaho) is working for the US Postal Service sorting mail :confused3 Really!!!

That's the only one near me as well. You must be at least 18 so not an opportunity for families.
