I need some help finding a good coat for my daughter that won't break the bank. I need something size 10-12 that will keep her warm as we live in New England but she is very picky about her coats. She will not wear anything that's bulky or puffy and she does not like hoods so I would need to find one where the hood Zips off or doesn't have one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Columbia has really good deals on coats before and during Thanksgiving week. The prices right now are $80- $100, but should go down this week. Keep checking. My daughter loves her Columbia jacket and it's not bulky. It has a zip off hood and is really warm even in our climate ( NW PA ).

Burton. Look at snow boarding type coat they are warm and not bulky. Finding no hood or zip off can make it harder.

Lands End has fantastic coats. Look in their sale section - most of their coupons will apply to the sale section which are just last years colors. I usually get a coat that they sell for $139 for around $40-$50 in the sale section with an extra coupon.

For example: https://www.landsend.com/products/girls-stormer-3-in-1-parka/id_303917?sku_0=::BLA

If you sign up for texts you can get 40% off this price.

I second lands end for winter coats.

In previous years, they have had 50% off on winter attire (and most everything else) over Thanksgiving weekend

DS10 is the same way about refusing to wear a bulky coat. He likes the jackets from Costco and Sam's Club. I think the brand is ZeroXposure. They are very affordable and more like a shell than an actual coat. Nice and lightweight but quite warm. I don't know if they have an option without a hood though

I've bought ZeroXposure at Kohl's too I think. My son has a similar jacket from Columbia with no hood. If he layers up he is plenty warm and then he doesn't have to shove a bulky coat in his locker. Well, now he's in college but in high school it was a good choice.

I think the "no hood" thing will be the hardest for you. Most kids coats have attached hoods so they don't lose them.

I found a light weight down one a few years ago at Macy's. It was really cheap and my daughter loved it. She also didn't like bulky jackets.
