Girls trip to Hollywood...what should we do?

DD (15) has wanted to go to Hollywood for a long time now so my friend who also has a DD 15 and I have decided to take the girls next June for their 16th birthdays. My friend grew up near LA so she knows the area, but she hasn't lived there in 15 years. I'm wondering what activities everyone would recommend for us to do...budget friendly of course. Can anyone recommend a good guide book? (I love me a good guide book!!) I'm guessing we'll be there 5-7 days. Thanks!
