Well, I have sort of been dreading saying this, but doesn't seem to be much point in delaying it any longer. I won't be coming on the trip next month.

:sad1: Sorry to hear this Beth but I do understand. I know how much you would love to join us and that this was an extremely difficult decision for you.

Crazy weather here in Northern CA. Although there is a break in the clouds right now and the sun in shining!!!!:) But I hear the worst is still to come for us.

Hope everyone had a great weekend - I can't believe it is Jan 19th already!:scared1: Rich and I leave for WDW a week from Thursday - and then when we get back the Ladies trip will be almost here!!!!

Sorry to be selfish, but this is my response for now:

Okay, I haven't know what exactly to say all day, so I'm just going to say this:

I really HATE that Beth isn't coming. :sad1: :sad2:

Oh Beth this makes me so sad! I TOTALLY understand as I know you know that if it wasn't for mom and Barb I wouldn't be coming either and believe me sometimes I feel TOTALLY guilty about it but like I said it is mom's birthday and Barb has never been so I keep telling myself that it is for THEM and I am just hitching a ride ;)

I am REALLY going to miss seeing you but I get it MORE than you know. I hope things start looking up for you guys financially too and you are able to come back again soon. I know how much you love it and hasn't it been since last year's trip since you've been? I know that getting to see your friends and family will be totally worth it though as I know how much you enjoy that!! Plus I am glad you get to see so many of the gals in Vegas! I only wish I could joing you guys! Someday!! :)

I know for us so far this is the only trip we have planned as well. We are DEF not taking our road trip we had planned this summer and even though mom really wants to take that cruise in Oct who KNOWS if THAT is going to happen. I'm not holding my breath. I am just hoping that somehow we can make a 3 day trip this summer happen at least but it is all just talk right now. Everything hinges on finances as usual.

I feel your pain on the braces. It cost us 6,000 for Lynn's and then she did EVERYTHING she wasn't supposed to WHILE she had them on and then only wore her retainer about 1/4 of the time for the first month or so she had it and then when she ran away she left it here and then NEVER wore it again. It is extremely important you where it pretty much 24/7 the first year so her teeth WILL go back to being bad. Maybe not AS bad but they will move back! What a waste! And the stupid part is she is doing it to herself! But whatever!

Shelby needs braces as well but we will prob wait till she is a teen as well. Lynn didn't get hers till she was 15 and we will prob wait till shelby is around that age because I think it is important to wait till all their baby teeth are out despite what some dentists say. It saves having to get more than one set of braces. Plus Shelby's jaw may need to be broken because she has a pretty serious over bite from sucking her thumb till almost 7 so we have to wait and see what needs to be done so THAT is going to be fun! Ah the joys of orthodontia! :)

Anyway the ca gals are right it has been MISERABLE here all day but for now the sun has come out but it is COLD! I wish I could say we were in for the night but we have basketball.

Gotta run help with homework and make dinner soon. Take care all and again Beth I am so sorry!

Sarah (motox) - What?! It's snowing!! lol AWESOME!!!! We have 2 Spudnuts in our city. But I've never been there. Hmmm, maybe I should go?

I'm sorry girls, with the way today went I was unable to ask about the reservations at Billy Hill & the Hillbillies. I'll be going again soon enough, probably next week, so I'll be sure to ask!

No problem. We have time.

Good morning ladies! :cool1:

Spent all weekend doing final papers for my RDG/530 class. Everything was due yesterday, and I'm happy to report that I got it all done and turned in! :cheer2:

I think I did well in this class. Not that I didn't do well in my previous classes, but this time I have that 'feeling' that I did well. You'd think that I would be all relaxed because I got everything turned in and I now have a week off before my next class begins, but I'm nervous for some reason.....I'm paranoid that I forgot to do something or turn something in because there was just SO many assignments and requirements, but I've looked over the syllabus again and again (which is as thick as a book) and I seem to have done it all.

Hope everyone is doing well, and for all those living in California, stay dry and safe. It sounds awful down there. :grouphug:

Yay for finishing another class!

Good morning ladies. :)

Beth

I'm sorry to hear this, Beth. It sucks to be responsible, and you're a better person than me. I totally can't afford the trip, but I've got a momma that really wants to go, so she's helping be out a bit.

A tornado warning for CA?
:scared1:

I saw that on the news!

It's snowing! :scared1: I can see it out the window at work.
Crazy! We've had wild weather here today, too. Really heavy rain, followed by blue skies, followed by thunder and lightening. It's supposed to be worse tomorrow.

I need to take my name of the Jazz Kitchen list. I am eating a late lunch, and want to watch fireworks that night. I think I will head back to the HOJO's for a nap. The fireworks are at 9:25pm. Anyone want to watch them with me? I'm not sure the Jazz Kitchen folks will be done in time, but if anyone wants to join me let me know and we can pick a spot to meet! :goodvibes

How about me, your favorite roommate??

Hey girls--I haven't had time to read all the way back but I did see that Beth is officially not going, which adds to the overall crappiness of my day. The weather here is horrific and our streets just aren't designed to drain so everything is flooded and my drive home took almost twice as long as usual.

I also spent most of the day in budget related meetings and I can honestly say that I won't be able to make any sort of concrete decision regarding the trip until at least next Tuesday due to things that are happening on both Friday and Monday. I really want to come but I do have to be prepared to take a step back and put my priorities in order once we have a better budget picture as of later this week. Being an adult sucks sometimes!

On an unrelated note, I know that many of you have put your kids (especially boys) into speech therapy at a young age, and I need some guidance. Ty has a pretty large vocabulary, but he really doesn't talk unless talked to and he is not using his words to get his needs across--he tends to use his teeth instead. His teacher mentioned this morning that he is not talking on the same level as his peers and in consulting with the AD of the center (who I have a very strong relationship with) she concurred that we should at least get an initial evaluation. How did you go about getting them evaluated (pediatrician, specialist, etc) and is speech therapy something that is typically covered by insurance??? I feel totally out of my league here and I am just trying to find a starting point to get the ball rolling.

Beth, I'm so sorry that you won't coming to this year's trip.:sad1: I agree it sucks to be an adult.

As I've done my budget for the year (I'm overly organized that way ;)), I don't think I'll be able to go to Vegas in June. I'm not giving up hope though. My idea is to save my business trip money (ie the money I don't spend on food, comes back to me) from this trip and any trips between now and June as well as half of my garage sale money and see if I have enough for the trip. I'm hopeful won't be 100% until May.

Talk to your pediatrician to get the specific name (in California it's referred to as a regional center )but for kids under the age of 3 the state gov. is responsible for children's development to include speech. Once they turn 3 you have to go through another evaluation to determine his needs then for an IEP (individualized education plan) from the your public school district. We started my son's process at 18 months. Until he turned 3 we received at home therapy once a week for 1 hour (one on one with a therapist). Since he turned 3 we go to our local elementary school twice a week for 20 minutes a speech class. It has helped him a great deal, he still has a ways to go but he is able to communicate with us know and surprises us a great deal with some of his sentences/phrases. As far as insurance and additional speech therapy, we're still fighting the red tape of our insurance :headache: because as far as they're concerned his speech with the school is all he needs...even though the therapist, his pediatrician and us all are saying he needs more assistance.

I hope all of you in Southern CA are dry and safe. :grouphug:

It's getting late out here and I need to get ready for tomorrow. I hope you all have a nice evening. Talk to you all tomorrow.

 Jane, we got our initial eval through the Easter Seals. That's how it's done here in AZ. At least here, you do not have to go through your ped. In fact I called my ped for an appointment, and he refused to see us! He blew off my concerns about Nathan's speech. (He's not our ped anymore!) I'll look into it for you. There are websites that can point you in the right direction. PM me your phone number if you want to talk, I'll be more than happy to talk with you if you need or want. :goodvibes

On further thought Jane, is Ty over 3? I'm thinking he is. IDEA (federal law) requires the school system to provide support after the age of three. Call your local preschool and ask them if they can point you in the right direction. We just went through the school evals for Nathan. He turns 3 on the 29th, and starts public preschool next tuesday and will get speech at school every week.

Hi Jane! I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of your insurance company. If they do cover ST it will be very limited.
I would start with your state's Early Intervention Services which provides services until a child's third birthday. (http://health.nv.gov/BEIS_FAQs.htm ) If he qualifies for this it would be free of charge. If they are anything like California's program you would simply need to call them and request an evaluation. That should get the ball rolling. They might or might not ask you to get a pediatrician's referral. More than likely Ty's daycare director has had children in the past that were receiving ST so she might be able to give you some insight as well.
BTW, once he turns 3 years your local school district would provide speech therapy.

Hope this helps! And try not to stress over this. :) All four of my children have had ST at one time or another. :thumbsup2

Stacie, I will go on Space Mountain with you over and over! Love it! I won't go on Screamin' though because I am afraid of heights and roller coasters usually scare me to death. I can do Space because it is dark and loud and I can't see that I am up high.

Beth, I am so sorry that you won't be able to make the trip. I really commend you for doing the responsible thing though. When it comes to vacations, I rarely do the responsible thing. I really shouldn't be spending the money for this trip either, but I'm going anyway. I am just being REALLY careful right now to not spend any money unless I need to. It is hard for me to make a budget because DH's income fluctuates so much we never know how much he is getting.

Public preschool? I have never heard of that. Do most of you have that where you live?

Bummer you won't be able to join us Beth. But I understand that life sometimes gets in the way of vacations and such.
