And this is what I found after starting packing earlier today...

Corona disapproves of our vacation :lmao:

I read a lot, I have a Nook and I love it!

Me too. I also have a Nook and Kindle app on my phone and tablet, so I'm never without something to read. I've never heard of these series of books that include 50 Shades of Grey. I'm always looking for new things to read, and I like romance, but I don't like explicit sex in books  (leave me at the bedroom door please), so are these books G rated or X or somewhere in between?

My daughter, who is a CM, just called and she got she and I tickets to the CM CarsLand preview for this Saturday. I'm so excited  It's from 8-12 that morning. I don't know exactly what we'll get to do, but I assume we'll get to ride RSR. We'll then spend the afternoon playing in the parks before she has to work that night.

I would consider 50 shades at least NC - 17. It depicts alternative aspects of bedroom behavior ( and outside) , without getting into heavy detail on here that's the best I can describe. I probably would steer clear of them if that's not what you are comfortable with. Honestly , I find Fifty Shades a bit..blown out of proportion but that could be because I am familiar with the activities depicted and feel it's a terrible representation of such , even for fiction. It isn't even written that well , all in my opinion of course.

The CarsLand preview sounds awesome !! Hope you have a blast ! :cool1:

Carthay Theatre in DCA. Can't wait to go to DCA when all the walls are down.

Carthay_Theatre_low_res.jpg
Very cool! I won't be seeing any of the new stuff until October. I can't wait.

Yeah, I like a little escapism reading now and then.... and Jamie in Outlander. mmmmm what a man! :teeth:
So this comment made me go check out the book, but it's 850 pages! Yikes. lol

I know, right?! A big, muscly redhead with a Scottish accent!? :cloud9:
That sounds nice! Why can't they make a movie like that? I'd love to see a really good, romantic movie set back in old Scotland with lots of castles, amazing costumes, and a hunky leading man. popcorn::
I know, I know. I should read the books, but that's sometimes easier said than done.

Hmm, interesting. Good to know.

It's kind of like apocalyptic era meets Victorian.
Um...ok. :rotfl:

I LOOOOVE me some steampunk - and I am super excited about that shop since I am a plus size girl and finding decent clothing options is near impossible ! I would dress that way everyday if I could.
I think the best way I describe it to people is watch Wild Wild West , LOL.

I think you are my new best friend!!! Steampunk is AWESOME!!! Being a plus sized gal myself.. I KNOW how hard it is to find.
We always say its sorta sci-fi victorian... Its honking cool though. I was just telling my husband I would dress like that everyday if I could too! He's all... It would kinda get in the way when your trying cook and clean and stuff though wouldnt it? I told him he would have to get me a girl to do all that for me. :lmao::lmao:
Crazy! Good luck with that! Can you make pinup/swing style dresses? If so we need to talk :rolleyes1
I can indeed!! Hit me up if you need anything!
Every year I try to read 100 books -
Thats an amazing goal.. I should do that with my kids.. I read TONS, and so does my oldest.. But my dd? Not really. Shes more like her dad..

I would say that a lot of these books have explicit sex in them. :rolleyes1

You ladies out there are probably going to laugh, but when I get to those parts, I literally skim over them. Too much for me. But i do love them for the story, the hunky hero, the heroin, time period and so on. Most of the time, you know the outcome with these books, but I am a romantic at heart.

When I was looking over the book "Fifty Shades of Grey" to see if was appropriate for Kaitlyn, I noticed that the language was really bad. I have a harder time dealing with that then anything. So for me, that book is definitely off my list. I'm reading a book now called "Skinny Dip". The language and parts of it are vulgar, and it is taking me forever to finish it, because of that. I'm reading it cuz my Dad gave it to me, and i know he is going ask me how i liked the ending. Actually the book is quite good and fun, so I do want to finish it. Just wish it didn't have to be that way.

I know you guys are saying, "Oh Melody, you crack me up." Yep, I am a pretty old fashioned lady, which most of you know. What can I say? :snooty:

I don't think there's anything silly about it , I actually hate romance novels and never actually read them..but this series has been all over my FB and become such a hot topic of debate - mostly because of the extent of the content related into it. It pushes my buttons in particular because the writing is just not what I would consider good and the way the content is displayed and portrayed - the community I am involved in is also upset over it because it glamorizes things that isn't for everyone.

I know it's just a book but it's one that I don't think anyone under 18 should be allowed to read without parental consent and someone to put it into perspective and proper context. It's nothing "new" really , this has been out there for generations but as the years go by it seems it's less about subtlety and more about shock value. To me these books are just erotica - something that has been around forever , and is all fine and good - but lacks any actual backbone to support it. I personally dislike all the attention the books are getting but it's just a personal issue with it. Whenever books like this get out in the "open" - it fills the streets and bedrooms with people that think they can do anything with anyone , and that is where the real danger lies.
Fantasy is great -but it's called fantasy for a reason. Now i'm on a tangent..sorry about that , lol.

I've read some great books in the past that will hint to relationships or encounters without giving express details or turning into being too much. I much prefer that with my imagination to run wild than things to be spelled out to me piece by piece.;)

I think I am already a total fangirl of yours. Steampunk and can sew pinup/swing style stuff..you're my new hero

Haha love your husband's comments..I have a feeling mine would say the same..:woohoo:

Definitely let me know when you get a chance to share some photos and some of your work I would love to see !!

Morning all!

Kerri yes I got the Tahitian and I LOVE it. My mom bought me one of the new retro DB wristlets and I love it too but I love this one more I think because it is a better size and has the shoulder strap. I used it last night and will be taking it on our trip in a few weeks. SO cute! I think depending on the next styles it may be my new addiction LOL.

Lisa glad your tooth is better for now. That is kinda what I was afraid of. With me though it was so bad they had to grind it down and I had a temp for 2 weeks got the perm and then it broke the next day eating rice go figure. So then I had to start the WHOLE process over and because my dentist was going out of town and then I was going to camp with Katy I had to wait 2 weeks JUST to get the new temp and then ANOTHER two weeks for the 2nd perm one. Needless to say it was ridiculous. I hope your ordeal goes much smoother!! :)

For those talking about Carthay I am excited too. We have a ressie for dinner there when we go so I am really excited to see it and try the food. I also can't wait to try Ghiradelli although I am pretty sure it will be like the others and of course Flo's!

Hope eveyrone has a GREAT day!

TGIF!!

I woke up at 6 this morning and evilly toyed with waking up my kids on their first day of summer vacation. :rolleyes1 But, I decided to let them sleep. Lazy bums. :rotfl:

Have a great day, everyone!!

I know you guys are saying, "Oh Melody, you crack me up." Yep, I am a pretty old fashioned lady, which most of you know. What can I say? :snooty:

You are sweetly innocent and old fashioned and we wouldn't have it any other way.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: That is so something i would do!! Heck.. I might. I mean, they have no issues waking the twins up butt early in the morning.... so I have to get up with them.

I just want to say.... im on the 3 day countdown to the invasion... :scared1: Actually, im not nearly as freaked out as I thought I would be. Im just looking forward to going to DL with my hubby. Did I mention I wont have any kids with me?:rotfl2:

I really like those purses.. I want one!! Oh, and I finally told my husband about the Diva trip.. and he said... oh. Ok. That will be fun. I asked if he was going to be okay with all the kids and he rolled his eyes at me. :lmao: I think hes got it.

Morning everyone! I finally got to sleep for a nice long time - something I don't think I've done in a while. I've been closing the last few nights and getting home past midnight, and then going back to work at 4am. It's pretty tiring, lol. Last night wasn't bad though. I was working at Dulce Aventura, the candy shop back in Pacific Wharf, for it's final day. So bittersweet ;)

I hope everyone has a good Friday!

Sounds like a busy time coming up but DL with your DH should be worth the effort ;)

I LOVE those purses and have been trying to talk the hubby into one myself..no luck yet..but my birthday is in July..hmm :yay:

Yay about the Diva trip I'm super excited to go and it's still months away. Hoping to get to know people a little better before then too.

You've got plenty of time to get to know everyone, I promise! I barely knew anything about anyone when I went on my first Diva trip (it was pretty last minute for me to actually go) and it was easier than I thought it would be for me to get to know everyone there and then come back to the thread and pick up where I left off.

Thanks for the encouraging words .... as a first timer I've also had concerns ... but on the other hand everyone seems so nice and fun I'm sure it'll be a wonderful trip! :thumbsup2

I went on the first trip.. I was going to go on the second trip? maybe the third? But I was due with my twins right then.. I actually had them the wednesday BEFORE the trip! LOL! So its always hit or miss for me if the trip lands on their birthday. I AM going this year. and I am SOO looking forward to it!:cool1: Love me some disneyland!!

Boy, if that's not a clear message that the "bag of doom" is NOT APPROVED, I don't know what is. LOL

According to my dentist, mine looks like it should be an easy crown. I love my dentist. I'm so gonna cry when he retires. He's turning 60 this month. He needs to keep working. For a long time. LOL

All I've got on the agenda today are the standard domestic duties and a run to the grocery store and dry cleaner. I need to make a graduation card before tomorrow. I need to get some files updated on my laptop. I need to start getting my Convention stuff going. I'm down to 39 days before I leave for Salt Lake City..... EEK!
