Hi, Ladies!
I'm posting this here because I feel more comfortable since I know most of you.

My dad talked to us last night and said that according to his doctor, he might need to go through radiation to completely kill of his thryoid.

This is most prevention because they found cancer in part of his thyroid (which they took out) when he had surgery a couple weeks ago. The doctors just don't want to take any chances. The hard part is that he went to get his T4 levels measured and they are still pretty high. T4 levels is a hormone your thyroid produces and even though most of his thyroid is gone, whatever was in the reserves is still working. The Doctors say they have to wait until it completely finishes before they can decide if radiation is the proper treatment. Which means that my father has to get worse before he can get better.:faint: And they say medicine is advanced nowadays.

What this means for us is that he will become more irritable and have practically no energy. He can't eat anything with iodine (no red things, salt, etc) so he will be eating organic foods for about a month. Because his thyroid controls his metabolism and the thyroid is pretty much non-existant, his metabolism will slow down dramatically causing higher blood pressure and he could possibly gain a lot of weight.

Sorry for being so :offtopic: and a downer but we really need your prayers. Thank you girls!:lovestruc

 I'm praying for you and your family! I know it is a difficult time and it will take a lot of patience and emotional strength. Hang in there! While you need to be supportive of your dad, we are all happy to be supportive of you! :lovestruc

Man, this thread is like a ghost town lately! Where is everyone??

Hopefully you are all out enjoying your summer. Today is my 15 year wedding anniversary.
To celebrate we are taking the kids out to see Wall-E when he gets off work tonight. :rotfl2:

Well, since we don't have anyone to watch the kids, that's the best we can do right now. We just had this long vacation so that was kind of a splurge and then his parents will be here sometime in July so we can have a night out then. So for now, Wall-E will be fine. I'm actually looking forward to seeing it. :yay: I hope it's good.

Have a good day everyone!

Happy Anniversary!!!! I hope you all enjoy the movie. I'd like to take the kids to see that. I know what you mean about now babysitter. Our 11th anniversary is the 4th of July and we're going to base celebration. We're getting a night out in August when we're visiting Josh's parents, we'll celebrate then.

I'm here--just have had a couple of really busy days between work and some stuff at the house (new cleaning lady, meeting with painters, etc.)

Get to go this afternoon to get a bone density test! Oh, the joys of getting old . . . . . next up . . . . colonoscopy . . . . oh boy--can't wait!

Other than that trying to get my house cleaned up for company next month

What is everyone doing for the Fourth of July? Big plans? I waited too long to try to have a barbeque and everyone's either going out of town or already made plans in my family . . . so it will be quiet (which actually is fine with me since my company will be here the following week). I live in a horse community and they have a parade where they decorate up all the horses and they walk by my deck on the way to the parade so that is always fun to watch.

Everyone have a great weekend! I may go to DL on Sunday if I can get up the energy!

Hi Sheryl. I think it's great that you're proactive with your health. You sound extremely busy. I hope you're able to get to DL on Sunday so you can relax at the best place on Earth. :goodvibes

I've already had the colonoscopy done, have a history in my family. It actually wasn't bad at all; just think, it gives you the opportunity to get all cleaned out and start eating healthy :rotfl2: Yeah, right!! Haven't done the bone density yet, but I did just have my hormones tested... Yes, I'm a female :rotfl2:

We're going to Michigan for 2 weeks, we have a cabin in Northern Michigan, where it's about 75-80 degrees right now. Much better than here, "Hotter than Hell" as DM calls it, where it's been 105-110 for the past 2 weeks, maybe 3!! :furious: My youngest DD's birthday is July 4, and my (usually D)H is July 7, and my brothers is July 16, so lots of celebrating to do, especially since my DD will be 13!!! I will officially be the parent of 3 teenagers!!

I just read this quote online, "Visiting every Disney theme park in the world may seem like an odd life goal for a child-free 30-something, but a wise person once said 'for those who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don't, none will do.'" Is that not completely true!!! Just change "child-free 30-something" to "parent-of-3-teenagers 40-something" and it makes even more sense!!! Would love for that to be my new tag -- Tag Fairy, where are you???

For all of you Photopass people from our April trip, I sent Beth the CDs as well, thought that since she planned it all for us, that was the least I could do! Now she just needs to figure out how to look at the 701 pictures!!!

Hi Stacie. I love the quote. I'm going to tell that my parents, they think I'm weird:confused3 because of my love for DL.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BETH!!! :jumping1:

We just got back from seeing Wall-E. We went to the first show of the day. It was very, very good. Really amazing animation and very emotion filled. I was super impressed, but then again, Pixar is really my favorite animation studio ever. Lasseter is just simply a genius! Oh and the new Pixar short is one of the funniest ever.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as my family did. :goodvibes

Glad to hear it's a great movie.

Hi Cristabel. I am sorry you're going through this. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers

wendylady36, what a great idea about the lights! The Tall Ships will be coming by during the day so we'll have to get some sort of other stuff, but that would be fun for the evenings over the weekend. Oh darn, a trip to Target is needed.

The book was just an 8x8, I got an offer by email for a FREE book, so I just paid shipping and tax, and it was mine. The cover is glossy and I made things really really BRIGHT and colorful (hubby was worried about it when I shared it online with him, but he likes the end results...he grew up with very bright colors, since his mom is Korean and they use BRIGHT colors there, so it was good once he saw the actual book) and different on every page, but trying to match the feel of everything. :goodvibes

I got the same offer! I always read the e-mail and forget about it. I was looking through my e-mail on Tuesday and I was about to delete the message, because I figured that by then it had to be expired, but I look and it said it expired that day. I was at work so I didn't think I'd be able to meet the deadline, but I logged onto my Photobucket account and find lots of pictures to use so I started making the book at work. When I got home I totally forgot I had started it and when I remembered I freaked out because it was 8 PM already. I got on and quickly finished it hoping it wasn't too late. It accepted the code and I only had to pay the $8.21 for tax and shipping. I was so happy that I went to bed. I couldn't sleep so I got my iPod and was reading the Dis on it when I decided to check my e-mail and there was an e-mail saying my card was declined (that's what I get for not double checking the card they had on file) so I freaked out, because it was already 11 PM and I didn't know if they had canceled my order or not. I quickly jumped on my computer and used the card I meant to use and it was accepted! Woo-hoo! So, long story longer, I now should be receiving my quickly put together, poorly done photobook tomorrow. :rotfl2:

Yours sounds SO pretty. I love to use lots of different colors on mine. I have won two of the bigger ones on an instant win game last year and had so much fun making them.

I  Target. I'm in there almost everyday. :rotfl:

Thank you! We'll meet on the next Girls' Only Trip, most definitely!
I've seen Mario Kart Wii at Wal-mart. Have you tried buying it online?

Yay! I'm so excited to meet you and everyone else on the next trip! :cool1:

I've called every Walmart within a 60 mile radius. I've tried Walmart.com, Target.com, Costco.com, ToysRUs.com, EbGames.com, Gamestop.com, BestBuy.com, CircuitCity.com, CDUniverse.com, and I'm sure there were others, but they were ALL sold out online! :faint: So I finally just ordered one from CDUniverse.com and they said it should be here by July 23. :scared1:

WOAH that's crazy

wendylady36, I'm glad you were able to take advantage of the offer, even if it was quickly done. I've forgotten about offers like that before, or even just the free prints or whatever, and it drives me nuts.

Did you look on amazon for the wii game you want? I notice that the game + wheel isn't available directly through amazon, but since hubby works for Amazon, supporting the Sellers, I know that especially the highest rated Sellers are legit. :goodvibes

Looks like I might need to do that. I just got home from seeing Wall-E and find this in my inbox:
Order Status Change - Item Discontinued
Hello Wendy,

We are writing to let you know that the following items which you ordered on 06/10/08 have experienced a status change.

Mario Kart Wii

At the time you placed this order, the item was available from our vendors. Since then, our vendors have discontinued supplying this item.

You do not need to respond. We ask for your patience. We may be able to obtain this item as a special order. Additionally, it is very likely that other retailers are experiencing the same issues with this particular item.

If we do not receive your item by 07/25/08, it will be cancelled. There will be no charge to you unless this item ships.

Which isn't too big of a deal, because the guy at Game Stop told me they were discontinuing the game + wheel, so I knew something like this would happen. Nintendo just needs to get there act together and pump out some more copies of that and WiiFit (which I can't find either :sad2:). I love my Wii, but Nintendo is really getting on my last nerve.

Hi everyone!

We loved Wall-E. So cute. I understand now Callie what you mean when you said it was full of emotion. ::yes::

I don't know how it would be for younger children though, in the under 5 range. I only say that because there was a kid about 4 or 5 who kept asking questions during the movie, "What did they say", "What are they doing", "What's happening now?" kind of thing. I don't know. Maybe it was just that kid. :confused3 LOL

In any case, definitely a thumbs up! :thumbsup2

How frustrating!

Well if you do want to go that route, look especially for the BIG sellers with tons of separate feedbacks (like the one about 3 down from the list of sellers of the game and wheel). The big ones with actual businesses tend to be very serious about their sales (though you do have to watch out for high shipping prices sometimes from them). ::yes::

Thank you so much for the info! I feel a lot better using that service from Amazon knowing that it has been recommended to me.
I was just checking out some of the prices, and people amaze me. $194.44? For a used video game? Are you kidding me? And he says it will ship in 2-3 weeks? I hope no one is that desperate.
There are definitely some reasonable prices though, thank goodness! I might go that route when I get my next paycheck if I haven't heard about Nintendo releasing the non-wheel version of the game.

Hi everybody! :goodvibes

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Cristabel--just wanted to reiterate that my neighbor had thyroid cancer 20+ years ago and went through the treatments your Dad is going through and is doing just great. She just recently had to have some tests and had to go through the no iodine thing too . . . . it's not easy . . . but like Bumber said there are alternatives. And now you have a walking buddy! Anyway, just wanted to let you know you've got support here in the OC too!

Ok, well, I guess I should get to work  instead of Dis-ing!

Cheryl

Ok--can I just say that the Dis seems to be possessed? I read Wendy's message talking about the crazy prices for the Wii BEFORE I posted, and when I posted, it's showing up before her message! The same thing happened yesterday on another forum. Weird . . . .

It's because the DIS likes you better.

It's been happening since yesterday all over the boards. Very confusing when a person starts a thread, and there are replies BEFORE the original question!

Wow, I'm not seeing that price!

Are you looking at the game and wheel together? That's what I'm looking at. When I look at the list of vendors, I remember the short list for buying my camera last year, and hubby was steering me towards a couple of the big digital camera sellers.

There's a camera store on the list of sellers for the game and wheel together, who has a 5 star rating, with "97% positive over the past 12 months (35304 ratings.) 62744 lifetime ratings." That was one from the short list for my camera....

Of course if you've never bought from an Amazon Seller, do read through everything, find out all the info about the ways you're protected and all. Once you're buying it, it's almost exactly the usual process like ordering "normally" from amazon (you can even use amazon gift certificates!).

OK I'll stop now. amazon was the first place I ever really used a computer for, they were my first internet purchase, and working there is where I met hubby, so I have a wee bit of loyalty (even before hubby got re-hired last October, LOL). :cool2:

It's been happening to me too. And I keep getting logged out and having to log back in after only a few minutes. It's making me nuts!! LOL

OK, all that sounds crazy. I'm not into the different gaming systems or games, but I hope it all works out for you and you are able to get what you are looking for. :wizard:

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a good week-end so far! :)

LOL...I wrote about the crazy-expensive USED Wii games, to a certain person I won't identify, and how the sellers must be nuts, and the certain person who is at work right now wrote back "tell me something I don't know!" I guess there were so many people buying the new ones, and many big sellers sold out, so the used people decided to jack up their prices.

But come on, there are still new ones available! Nutty, I tell you.

I don't know how you guys in hot climates deal with it. I'm so dang-blasted hot right now, I can't move. And E and I seemed to have picked up a bug (I'm putting the blame on the Children's Museum we stopped in at on their free farmer's market day, b/c the library was last Saturday, too long ago), E is running hot and keeps leaning on me, augh. The combo of weather plus hot kiddo is going to make me pass out. Augh.

And to think I grew up in CA. :confused3

Hi everyone!:goodvibes

Don't know where this is going to end up being at, but oh well.

We're in the "TWILIGHT ZONE" Ne ne, Ne ne, Ne ne..................ooooooooooooohhhhhhh oooooooooooooohhhhhhhh eeeeeeee!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Happy Saturday ladies! I hope you are all having a great day :) My bf and I just watched Wall E. Very cute! :goodvibes

Molly, I agree!! It is soooooo hot here right now and because we don't often have very hot weather, NOBODY has a/c!! We live in a townhouse, so there are other houses on all sides and no breeze comes through, even with all windows open - yuck!! It usually gets about 5-10 degrees hotter INSIDE than it is outside:scared1: :scared1: Yesterday it was about 30 degrees (86) so it was about 35
(95) degrees inside (that's as high as our thermometer goes, so I'm not sure exactly how hot it was inside - other tha way TOO dang hot!)
