Once upon a time a long, long time ago.....well it was actually 1989 so not that long ago....a bunch of friends attended a great graduation party at the Magic Kingdom. Somewhere in between watching New Kids on the Block perform in front of the castle, getting our pictures taken with the Big Mouse himself with our mouse ears with tassles on, and blasting off into space on Space Mountain two friend decided they would return one day to share the magic with their own daughters. Ok maybe it wasn't as sappy as that but that night my best friend and I fell in love with Disney World. We have both been back with our own families but never together again. We took separate trips in 2003 and since then have been saying wouldn't it be great if we could go off with the girls for our own trip.......
Sometime in May I went to my mailbox and lo and behold I found a POSTCARD from Disney. I couldn't believe my luck. It was for the free dining promotion. I mention this to my friend and the wheels started turning. Before I knew it I had booked POFQ for Aug. 21-26 and 6 day park hoppers. Airline was booked. It was going to happen! When the day of departure finally I arrived I still couldn't believe we were going through with it. As my daughter said when we arrived on our last trip "Am I dreaming??!!" But it was real and we were on our way.
As I am writing this I am hearing news of the devastation left in NO and surrounding areas by Katrina. I know it is silly but after having a wonderful stay at POFQ which is based on NO I feel a strange connection to the city. All last week I was thinking I have to go visit the real NO some day soon. My thoughts and prayers are with all effected by these events and I know one day NO will be "open for business" and my family will take that trip.
