Girls getting ready at our house for homecoming?

Check with your dd about meal plans. They may be eating at the picture house.
Wouldn't hurt to have a few munchies on hand for them to eat.

I second the double-sided tape. I bought some for my daughter's first strapless dress, and managed to "save the day" for a friend who was panicking last minute about the fit of her dress. :)
A small sewing kit or tiny safety pins may come in handy also, if you have one. I can't tell you how many spaghetti straps I've seen repaired last minute over the years.

I think non-messy finger food and clear drinks would be a hit since they can snack while they get ready. If they are all truly starving and have the time to sit down before getting ready, pizza may be a good option.

I agree with others though, don't make yourself too much of a presence until the final group photos, They'll probably be taking their own "getting ready" pictures and may not want moms there.

Hope they have a wonderful time!

Another thing to have on hand- Static Guard. Depending on the weather, some of the dresses can get a little clingy with static electricity. I also like the double sided dress tape recommendation.

Dd and friends have gotten ready here many times. I try to have something like pizza to eat before they start getting ready and then a few snacks to grab during the process.

They never want to eat after they get ready. Even if the group goes out to dinner they tend not to eat a whole lot for fear of messing up the dress or the makeup.

In addition to items already mentioned, I try to keep extra toothbrushes or dispoable tooth brushes on hand. And gum--most of the girls grab gum on the way out.

If they're coming from cross country, they're going to want to eat -- mostly before they are fully ready. They are teenagers, so don't be shocked if they continue to nosh once dressed also. The getting ready is a huge part of the fun for them. DD's dance is Saturday also & she's going for hair & manicure w/ a friend & they'll meet up again at the park for pics before the dance w/ their dates.

Some teen girls enjoy eating; others are always(!) watching their figures.

As part of a girls' choice dance, two young ladies "hired" DH and me to fix them and their dates a Chinese feast before the dance (in exchange for babysitting our little kiddos.) The girls were so concerned about eating too much and making their gowns too tight that they barely ate anything. We "had" to invite some friends over to help us eat the leftovers.

I'd also make sure you have plenty of clean towels for them (as presumably they'll be showering after practice) and find spots around the house to plug in hair straighteners and curling irons as I'm guessing they'll need at least a couple! Maybe have a few new toothbrushes on hand too, just in case anyone forgets. Extra hairspray, bobby pins, etc. And extras of the things that you will be forcing your DD to put in her handbag that she will later be grateful for, like bandaids, gum and Advil or Tylenol.

As for food, I'd check with your DD, but I think some post-practice food would be a good idea. I'd possibly go for more snack-type food that won't get cold if they eat while taking turns showering.

All those saying that the girls might not want to eat must not realize how hungry runners are after practice. If there's one group that can out-eat teen boys, it's runners! :rotfl: OP, even if the girls are eating at the picture house, you'll want to have something for them as soon as they get to your place after practice. I'd include some protein along with "fun" snacks.

You've already received lots of good advice on items to have on hand. I don't remember if anyone mentioned hair spray, but if any of the girls are doing some kind of updo they'll want that. Also, make sure you know where your fuse box is and how to re-set it - we learned the hard way that 2 hairdryers in the same room tripped ours!

Along with your sewing kit, have an iron and ironing board ready, in case anyone's dress is really wrinkled. You can either use the steam function to steam the wrinkled section, or have a cotton pillowcase ready to lay over the dress as you iron. You never want to iron directly on the dress.

Have fun! I'm a couple years away from high school with DD, but she and her friends got ready for an elementary school dance here. They were so cute, and I even ended up curling one of her friend's hair for her. I hope your daughter has a wonderful time!

If runners are as hungry as dd and friends after Judo, I would have LOTS of whatever you plan for them to eat. :rotfl2:

But I think I would plan something for before they dress. That way, it can be something a little more substantial without the messing the dress worry. At the very least they can grab some pizza, after make up--while fixing hair---before the dress is put on.
