Just wondering if current or former GS leaders had taken their troop to the National Center in Savannah? My Jr. troop has earned each of the 4 signs, the Jr. Aide Award & their Bronze Award.

We are facing a new year of scouting now and I thought this might be a great way to reward them for their hardwork over the last 2 years.

If you have gone, what was your budget? Where did you stay? Did the girls enjoy the trip? How long did you stay? Did you find it educational & Fun? Would you do it again?

I've never taken a Girl Scout Troop anywhere, but I do live here, so if I can help you out in any way, let me know! You might want to visit the web site: visitsavannah.com....
Dining here is not really expensive, compared to other places I've been, and we have some really good restaraunts...The Lady and Sons is a must, and if the kids like pizza, try Vinnie Van Go Go's in City Market....also good for chicken fingers (the best!) is Spanky's on River Street....
There are lots of hotels in the historic district, most of them are chains, like Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson, etc. but there are a few that are locally owned inns and several b&b's too.
There are a whole lot of tour companies in town, ranging from trolly tours and carriage rides, to the haunted hearse tour that goes around to the supposedly haunted houses and cemeteries in the historic district....
this is getting long, but if you want any more specific info I'll be glad to look around for you!

Thank you sooo much for the great info! We will be probably looking at an early spring trip (is this a good time of year for your area?). I will visit the web site you suggested in the am, but If you don't mind, I may pm you with a couple of questions.
Again, thanks so much for your response!

A senior troop in our area just went. I can try to get some information and a contact for you if you'd like. Feel free to pm me. My email is down at home because we were hit by lightning.

Call the Birthplace NOW!!! Reservations for next Spring will be filling up quickly (Trust me!) Plus they can send you thier book which has a LOT of hotel and meal info including deals on hotels and meals. The other thing you need to do is contact your council. The Birthplace will require thier approval before you arrive if you want to do the activities.

I have taken several trips to Savannah and the spring is a very popular time with Girl Scout troops which can fill things up quickly.

Lots of troops use the Days Inn which has a pretty good scout rate.

I agree, call the birthplace now, there seem to be a lot of troops in town in the spring. My DH was a captain on the river boats on River Street for years, and he had troops on all the time as part of their tours. I do know the Days Inn that the previous poster mentioned, it was renovated just a couple of years ago and is in the historic district. It is pretty close to City Market though, which is a local hangout with several bars. (right accross the street to be exact, not sure how you feel about that) But there are several night clubs, bars etc. in the historic district that are frequented by locals on the weekends, so you would be hard pressed to stay away from them unless you come during the week....There is a nice Holiday Inn owned hotel downtown too, called The Mulberry Inn, not sure of prices, but I can check. Also, I work for a local bakery here (have been a cake decorator for about 14 yrs) and we do desserts for most of the hotels and restaraunts downtown, so I can gather info from just about any of them. (and you know you'll have great desserts!) Anyway, if I can help, please don't hesitate to ask!
p.s. Spring is a good time weather wise, not too hot yet and the gnats and mosquitoes aren't out in force until closer to summer.
