Girl Scout ? Mall Sleepover

I third the suggestion for the air mattress. Don't forget the "thingy" that blows it up! Definitely bring your own towel and toiletries.

I always wonder why they call these "sleepovers" as they really should be called "sleep-less overs." It amazed me that some moms would get ticked that their precious little princess did not get much sleep at these events. Our service unit was very clear about the lack of sleep at this event.

Have fun! One of my favorite things when I was a GS leader was the Junior overnight. Girls started dropping off about midnight, and out of 100 girls, about 20 stayed up all night.

Have fun - your DD will remember you as being a "cool mom" for chaperoning an event like this!

DD graduated from there a couple of years ago and she called it "The U", but then she had a few profs. who would not have tolerated the other!
Those profs obviously weren't from around here.

We are the land of sangwiches (sandwiches), heyna or no (yes or no), and djeet yet? No, djew? (Did you eat yet? No did you?) Oh, and let's not forget a couple two tree (several). Ahh, Scranton... :thumbsup2

Tell your DD that there is a new student center that is spectacular from what I've seen. It even has a Starbucks in it! Where was that 20-25 years ago when I would have appreciated it?

I've been calling it the non-sleepover-sleepover. I'm dreading tomorrow and just hope that I'll be able to stay awake for the Super Bowl. DH was already told not to invite anyone over for the game since we usually host the party.

It's funny that you mention me being a "cool mom" for chaperoning. My DS's friends all say that about me because I'm the mom who is right in the middle of their activities... I initiate the board games (and play with them) when they start to get bored... ours is the house that they hang out at most... I'm the taxi service for most of the boys, although the other parents are willing to help, too. My parents were always the "cool ones" so I'm hoping that I can instill this in my kids, too... parents need to be involved.

We saw it when we picked up DS's books a week ago last Tuesday and again when we dropped him off on Monday. It is beautiful. But DD was heartbroken when she had learned about losing Gunster. That was home to her. She says she just can't go back to campus with Gunster not being Gunster and pretty soon won't be there at all. I think she will eventually get over that though.

It just dawned on my DD and I. When she was first in Daisy Scouts, she had to learn the GS Promise. She thought the last line was, "and to live by the Girl Scout Mall" instead of "and to live by the Girl Scout Law."

I just told her that tonight she's actually going to the Girl Scout Mall. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:thumbsup2 My troop is doing an overnight to the Philadelphia Zoo. Unfortunately we had to cut some adults so my co and I flipped a coin and she is going.

DD and I did this when she was in scouts, and absolutely LOVED it. They do turn down the lights and expected the girls to "try" to get some sleep, probably about 2 am or so.

BUT, if your troop gets there early enough, and can claim territory AWAY from the bathrooms it is a plus. (We were in the Treehouse area) Unfortunately, no one told us about the sleeping arrangements ahead of time, and we were stuck close to the bathrooms, and kids and adults climbed over our sleeping bags all night. Since the lights were turned down, but not completely dark, we got kicked quite a few times by those on the way to the bathrooms. And the water running in the bathroom, and the flushing all night was awful. ANd get a couple of giggly girls in there, and the sound is magnified x10.

Hope your girls have fun!

An ipod, ear phones and a book!

We did an overnight sleepover at church with Girls brigade from 6:30pm till 12:30pm the next day and kids were between 5-18 and i think the only people who slept were the 5 year olds. I remember playing snap at 2am and watching Narnia at 4am, i gave up telling them to sleep lol

I have to laugh! I ended up at Marywood University (right down the street from "da U", but I almost went there!) The first time I heard "heyna or no" I drove home to Tobyhanna wondering how a city 30 minutes away could have a whole different language!

Thanks for the warning. They are staying in the Treehouse are also.

This sounds so cool. Where do they sleep? Can you give us more details. The Phila Zoo is incredible. Are you sad that you don't get to go?

Excedrin AND some alcohol! :drinking1

I've done this (the sleepover, not the alcohol :goodvibes) with my daughter's troop at a museum and and a zoo. Fun but so tiring.

I used my lipgloss all night long.

The Excedrin came in handy for one of our Cadette girls who came down with a splitting headache after she'd been screaming for 2 hours. ;)

The mall got VERY cold during the night. I walked around with my blanket and pillow. At every station, I sat down and closed my eyes. Finally, around 4, our leader relented and let the girls relax for an hour. I fell asleep in a chair with my feet up. I decided not to bring the blow up mattress because it needed a hair dryer to blow up and I wasn't sure about the outlet availability in the mall. Turns out, there were enough seats to go around and everything was fine. I'm sure there will be pictures of me sleeping.

Oh, and the mall lights never were turned down. :confused3

The girls were all pretty silent on the way home. :thumbsup2 One of the girls could barely give me directions to her house. At another girl's house, I hit the panic button on my key ring instead of the auto-closer for the back hatch. Whoops! I didn't mean to wake the neighborhood at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday.

The girls were surprised how few people were on the roads at that time of the morning. I found that funny.

So, I just got up, and I have to go to buy stuff for our Super Bowl dinner. DD is still sleeping. I'm making buffalo chicken dip and meatballs in wine sauce. It would have been nice for DH to agree on that menu YESTERDAY! At least he married a cook... and DS doesn't know that he's helping me cook everything yet. :)

Thanks for all of your advice! The girls loved the apples during the night.

I'd do it again next year.
