Hi!

For the first time our Girl Scout Troop is going to participate in the Candy and Nut sale for the Girls Scouts. We get all the materials today.

Well - we have the cookie thing down, know the top items, etc.

So, has anyone bought this stuff before -- is it good? Any special "must have items"

Thanks!

I can't stand the nut sale. So few people participate in it that it becomes more of a nuisance. As the leader I end up doing the entire sale bit and I'd much rather concentrate on everything else. But the girls love the patches and whatnot they can earn so we sell the stuff. Only about half of the troop participates.
We have our sale in the spring and the cookies in the fall. We are selling right now. So I think by the time the nut sale rolls around the parents are burnt out from the cookie drive. We push cookies hard!!

Oh I forgot to add that the products are okay. They are nuts. You really can't screw them up. My DH likes the chocolate covered raisins and my DM loves the gummy berries.

Thanks Eeyore - we are on the opposite schedule. Our cookies don't come in until February and we don't get our funds until after all the money is in and accounted for, so that is almost the end of the year!

I'm not super excited about this sale - we are already in the middle of our 3rd school fundraiser :scared1: and we have another outside activity fundraiser going on. But at least chocolate is involved! :thumbsup2

We are starting this sale on 10/4. I had my training the other day and we got to taste everything. It was all pretty good. Hopefully my troop will earn something decent from it!

The salsa mix is very very good.

We have been selling for a couple of weeks, but I have not been stressing i tmuch to my kids. We have lots of money left over from last year and will sell cookies starting in December.

At our leader meeting we tasted the candy. It was very good and not like some of the yucky stuff you get at fundraisers. I liked the choc. covered pretzels and the fruit and nut mix covered in dark choc.

my favorite is the new mix with the chocolate covered nuts and fruit. They are also in new reusable container with a pop up lid. Honestly we dont make lot from the nuts/magazines so when I hand out the forms this week I am giving the parents an option to do a donation also.

Excellent idea Lisa!! I think I may try that this year!

yep, We are still doing the sale.. of course the girls want the patches... but for us its 10 nuts for the nut patch and 2 magazines for that one. We sold $2000 last year and make $200. Personally I will let my dd sell to close friends and family and than I will make a $20-$30 donation to the troop.

Salsa Mix? Is that one of those mixes that you add to tomatoes or sour cream? I do like those mixes! Maybe this is getting better!

I wish our troop knew how much money they have - we have a new leader who is still getting things from the old leader. We, the parents, have had two planning meetings. I keep asking "how much money do we have" when this fundraiser or setting the years fees come up. But they are just looking at it as "more is better" even though this is probably the last year (5th grade). I guess our EOY field trip will be cool!

You've got to remember, like the cookies, the nuts are probably from different places. I was at a leader's meeting 2 weeks ago and they put out nuts for us to sample. The chocolate on the nuts was horrible. I like chocolate that has a nice, smooth mouth feel. That chocolate hardly disolved around the nut. I didn't buy any nor did I sell any to our friends. The pistachios are good... they are just nuts. I understand that the honey roasted ones were good, though I didn't try those. They were coveted by the women and men on the other side of the room who wouldn't give them up.

Our GS division also combines magazine sales with the nut sale. They have a great deal for a combo of Cosmo Girl and 17 for $15 for one year. I bought that for my DD.

I never heard of the candy, nut or magazine sales until reading about them on the DIS last yr. Our Council only does calendars and cookies.
DD does very well with the caldendars, but the rest of the tropp doesn't. DD sells 60-75 I would say, where the total for the rest of the troop equals about that. DH takes DD to work with him 1 day and then puts form out for those that she misses.
Calendar sales already started, but our calendar mom forgot to bring the forms to the last meeting...Arg So we start on Friday

Nope, the salsa mix is a spicy mix of peanuts, salsa corn sticks, toasted corn, soy noodles, almonds and pepitas.

I love the QSP candy/nut sale- much better profit for the troop for cookies- and the prizes earned are better for less work for the girls too- plus I love the chocolate covered raisens and peanuts... and almonds. I get the pistachios too (but no chocolate on those).

Most of the items sell for much less than the same items in school sales.

We also encourage everyone to save their magazine renewals until this sale and get a lot just from that.

My favorite used to be Hot Cajun Crunch- which was like a party mix with a kick- but sadly I've developed a wheat allergy so no more for me...

We get minimal participation from troops- and usually only returning troops participate in this. Ours starts at the end of October this year- which is great- usually we are trying to sell during Thanksgiving holidays.

We are starting ours in a couple weeks. Last year was the first year our troop had participated in it, I never even knew about it before I became leader. About half of our girls sold anything, but we did pretty well.
I wasn't crazy about the nuts or candy, so I won't buy any this year. I will renew some magazines (even though I could do it much cheaper somewhere else) to support our troop.

What is your profit for nuts/qsp sales? for us its 10% so not great..vs .80 for each box of cookies which sell like hot cakes.
