I would love to bring one of the gingerbread houses home with us. Do you know if there is anything I can put on it to preserve it for next year? We won't get home until after Christmas and I would love to save it to put out next year. Is that possible or will it grow mold or something? :confused3

You can freeze it, if you have room in your freezer where it wont get damaged for a whole year! :flower:

I just spoke to the GF bakery and the houses are flying out the door. I was told that they can not make them fast enough. If you want one, I would suggest that you order one from the bakery.

I made gingerbread houses every year with my children, and then as they got older and were no longer interested, I kept them for several years. Leave it out exposed to the air until it is very dry and hard. Then wrap it securely in a plastic bag, sealed and air tight, and put it in a box to protect it. I'd put the box in the basement. I'd bring them out the following year and they were fine.

Could someone give me the phone number of the GF bakery (Patty3)? I'd like to order one for our grandchildren for our Disney Christmas. Thank you!

I'd love to order one. I thought I heard on the show that they weren't ready for shipping. Will they ship one to my house or should I just order and pick it up when I'm there? The bakery number would be fabulous! Thanks!

ita with this Nana Sue...not sure if the freezer would work as i think royal icing doesn't freeze well. ( used to work at a bakery that made gb houses.that was yrs ago but if i recall the frosting melts if it gets wet.) they dry out and last for yrs if kept as Nana sue suggested but maybe put some moth balls close by to keep out mice and of course don't try eating it next yr

The phone number is 407-824-2474. I was told that they are priced at about $60, not $25. I thought the special on the food network mentioned them at around $25. Jody called me back and said that they were not taking orders, she thought they were. She said that she was told there would be plenty available, even though they are flying out the door. She said that the woman making them was told not to run out. If they let you order one, please let me know and I will call back and maybe get someone else.

I kept one I made from a few years ago on the top of a bookcase for a long time, it never attracted any bugs or grew any mold. It was completely dried up. Maybe I shouldn't have done that, but as there was never any problem with it, but I figured if it started to attract bugs or smell bad I would throw it out, but never had to worry about it. Don't know what that says about the nutritional value of the sugar LOL.

If you're interested, you could always make your own as well. They are readily available at places like Targets or Bed, bath, & beyond, etc, for like 12 dollars or so.
