To those of you who use ginger products, specifically the gum, for sea sickness, where do you get it? I've looked at Trader Joe's and Vitamin Cottage and neither have the gum. They have the chews which I like just fine but are way too strong for everyone else in my family especially kids. It's some serious stuff. I tried one and it has a heck of a bite. It seems I'm able to find it in every other form: chews, mints, hard candy but no gum. Where are you guys getting the gum? I'd prefer to get it in a store...in the U.S. a national chain, preferred. :)

I bought ours in February at our local Rite Aid.. I have to say that it did work well for our son who tends to get air/car and sea sick.

You might want to check Amazon. I got some Tummy Tamers (ginger lozenges) for our upcoming trip. The chews are way to strong for me too!

My 2 cents. It seemed to work for me during my last cruise. Got sick on my two prior cruises. Last Nov. on Fantasy with 2 days of 15 foot seas. I almost drank them out of Ginger Ale with no sickness during those 2 days :cool1:

I didn't think the ships had ginger ale. I was going to pick up some and put it in my carry on for the trip.

I know the Wonder has ginger ale as that's how I learned about it helping with sea sickness when they have it to me.
Now I order my cocktails mixed with it.
Best of both worlds : )

Oh good! I wonder if it is on the Dream. Also is it with all the other drinks or do you have to get it from a special area?

I've heard that you can ask for ginger ale in the MDR's, but if they don't have it and have to get it from a bar they will charge you for it. It is not offered at the drink stations.

It's avail at the bar or restaurant with meals, but not for free on the deck. I like to bring some Canada Dry for the fridge

Will they clearly tell you that or is it more like a, "sure, I can get you that" and the next thing you see is a charge for it?

Unfortunately, since we're flying, bringing our own ginger ale isn't really much of option so I have to stick with candies, gum and the likes.

Yeah - I think I will stick to the plan to bring some with me.
Also note that not all Ginder Ale has ginger in it. I know Seagrams and Canada Dry is supposed to. Some just have ginger flavoring - whatever that is!

Ask you doctor for some Zofran or a scopolamine patch. It will help with the nausea and Zofran has no side effects.

note: there are few ginger ales that still have ginger in them in any appreciable quantities....stick with canada dry and/or schweppes.

we used ginger capsules from whatever vitamin store in bought them from...they worked fine. however, i took 1 too many and had "ginger reflux" for laack of a better term....burped up ginger for a while before falling asleep. Of course, ginger burps beat purging hands down in my book.

Also, keep in mind ginger doesn't work for everyone. It does absolutely nothing for me and ruined a deep sea fishing trip I went on. I literally wanted to die that day. If I had only known about Bonine back then.

I normally just take meclazine that I pick up at Kaiser or Rite aid. It has little to zero side effects as well

I know ginger might not work for everyone...the same with medication. Ginger worked well for me during pregnancy so I figured it couldn't hurt to bring some with me for the trip. I don't even know if any of us will be sea sick or not, but I'd like to have something on hand just in case. I seriously considered getting Dramamine/Bonine (which I found out Bonine no longer makes a children's version so that won't work) as the "just in case" option but if we end up not needing it, then it's a waste. I figure at least with the ginger, we can still use it just for the heck of it even if we don't need it, and we wouldn't be unnecessarily medicating ourselves in the process. :goodvibes

I don't know about the gum, but I always get car sick and Pepperidge Farm Ginger Man cookies always work for me.

Zofran can and does have side effects. I know for a fact that I am affected by it. It works great for the nausea, but some of the side effects are migraines and diarrhea. (Normally after you stop taking it.)

I swear by the DCL sea calms free from the med station on deck 1 or guest services. Work a treat for me, even in the roughest seas
