Gifts to Send - Suggestions?

Not really budget related but .....

My FIL is battling lung cancer and just got out of the hospital (he was in for a week because of fluid build-up in his lung). My ILs live about 3 hours away and I'd like to send them things to help brighten their day. I've already ordered a gift box from Harry & David and sent flowers.

Is there anything else that my fellow DIS'ers send to friends & family?

How about having your kids write a note or make a card/picture and send that? When my friend was in the hospital we helped her kids color and paint artwork and we sent all of their school projects too so she had them to brighten her day!

Cookie Bouquet

There are a couple of companies that make these, but this was my favorite to receive (I am home from work now doing treatment for Thyroid Cancer).

My basket said something like--"Hey pal--get well" I can't remember, it was the first cookie my DH ate.

I can't have flower delivery (two cats--who would eat them and throw up).

The other totally awesome thing someone sent was a prepaid house cleaning service. This friend uses the same woman to clean her house all the time. The friend paid for her cleaning lady to come to my house. All I had to do was set up a time that worked for both of us. I am sure you could do something similar with a company.

Or how about setting up Netflicks to be delivered for a few months. Don't know what your father-in-law does for entertainment, but after one week of TV at home I have had it! Yesterday I went and raided all of my neighbors DVD/Blu Ray collections. I have a huge list of borrowed movies (so I remember to whom to return).

When my Dad had lung cancer, they had a few people give them cash or a gift card to a local gas station. It was greatly appreciated, because my dad had to quit his job and with all the hospital runs and chemo, my mom was going through a ton of gas.

My prayers are with your IL's. This is a very nice thing you are trying to do for them. Maybe if you could get some time to just show up at their door and help with things for an afternoon, that would be great too.
