My Son teaches 3rd grade in South Carolina he is a first year teacher. What I was wanting to know do teachers give gifts to their students? If so I need some ideas what? He is really on a tight budget and I was wanting to help him out much as I can. Thanks In Advance!!!!!!

I always give my kids a book. Scholastic has books for .95 cents. This year I have a class that always orders a lot of books. Each book they order earns bonus points for me. So, this year I am going to give each child a coupon to choose their own $1.95 book. All it costs me was a few bonus points.

Every year I take tons of pictures of my class with my digital camera and then at the end of the year, every child gets a CD with all the pictures on it.
I was going to make every child a scrapbook, but that gets expensive, so this is the best idea. You can use Windows Movie Maker to add music, text, and special effects to the CD.
My only cost is a package of CDs and cases. The biggest cost is the amount of time it takes to put the movie together, but it's worth it when you see the kids and parents faces as I show it to them.
Many times parents don't get to see what goes on everyday in the class, and this is their little window into what their child did all year. It's also a present that they will have forever.
Hope that helps!

I'm an aide in a K class and this is what I am doing for the kids. I did the same thing last year and they loved it. They loved that they got to pick out a book all for themselves.

For the holiday present, I do that too. It's 20 bonus points and the children get a certificate that they can use to get a book. It's a great way for children who may never order books in school to get a book.

I usually go to the Dollar Store and buy things for my class. They always have these cute plastic ziploc bags for christmas. I also get a pack of holiday pencils, erasers, activity books, and other holiday trinkets. They sell all of these in sets. I usually find a lot of things in there and never spend more than $30. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where does your son teach? My husband and I are both teachers in South Florida, but are planning on relocating to Greenville next year. I don't know to much about the area, but would like to know more. Thanks and I hope that helps.

That is an incredibly wonderful of you! My son has received a book from one of his fav teachers....she is also the one that inspired my son to read over the summer and every night! She was his 2nd grade teacher and would read the BFG with such silliness she won my DS over!

My DS's 4th grade teacher sent home a picture of him in the classroom in a silly moment. I would have loved if she had herself included in the picture how special a teachers relationship to a student is, so I hope you include yourself in those pics a magical teacher is a memory that lasts well after schooling is over!

Thank you for being such a thoughtful magical teacher!~:santa:

My three have recieved books, personalized ornaments, little treat bags with pencil etc. My DS who is 24 still has his gift from his 1st grade teacher... she made each of them a little pillow!
DD 11 also got a handmade fleece scarf one year.
Maybe you can think of something that would be a reflection of his personality?

Last year DS9's third grade teacher made up goodie bags of a few little toys from Oriental Trading Company, a pencil, a book, and she made up little coupon books that had redeemable coupons like, "Homework pass-skip one homework assignment", "Free pencil", "Free 5 minute chat with teacher", "skip an in-class work sheet"...

caralyn817, you are moving to Greenville? I just moved from Greenville to Savannah two years ago. Greenville is a wonderful city, you are going to love it there. I am sure much has changed, but if you have any questions about what goes on, feel free to pm me...

I'm in HS, so things are different.

But each of the kids in each of my freshmen Algebra classes is getting a "One night get out of homework free" pass. I went to www.vistaprint.com and had free business cards made up. I left a space for each student to write his or her name, and mentioned that any pass with an altered name would not be accepted.

For my homeroom I went to www.orientaltrading.com and got candy cane striped pencils and large candy cane erasers. (Our kids take trimester exams right before Christmas, so they'll come in extra handy for all those scantron sheets.)

Thank you all for the great ideas, I will be passing these along to him. I know he has taken pictures on his cell phone he has showed us some really cute ones.

He teaches in Aiken County. Greenville is about 2 hours from him. I dont know to much about the schools in Greenville but it's a beautiful place.
Thanks for the Dollar Tree idea!!

a few teachers in our Middle School/Elementary school give the McDonald's treat Packs. They cost 1.00 each on our area and have 12 coupons. With 30 kids per class... it is a nice inexpensive way to give everyone a treat!

Hi!
1st grade teacher here :teacher:

I always give each student a book.
I got them free from the Scholastic Book Clubs October offer.

Your son still has a little time.
If he sends home the October Lucky offer (this is for 2nd & 3rd grades)...he will receive a FREE book for each student in his class. I do this every year with the 1st grade offer also (I always send home both book club offers) . This gets me 2 sets of free books & I give the students the other one on Valentines Day. :cool1: Doesn't cost me a dime!!

I stamp the inside of each cover with "Happy New Year! Love, Mrs. XXXX"

My DD takes digital photos of each of the kids, then prints it out on card stock in a coloring book format. They get the picture and a small pack of crayons. Of course she teaches Kindergarten - not sure if 8/9 year olds still color. She tells me that the parents looove the idea. :)

For the past few years I have found these really cute teddy bears at BJ's. They are stuffed animal ornaments in winter outfits (hat, scarf, sweater) Then I get a Scholastic book for each of the kids and put it in a little gift bag with a candy cane and pencil or other school supply from either The Dollar Store or Oriental Trading Co.

I love making up the bags and one year I had them sitting out on my table when the kids came back from a special. One of the boys in my class came up to me and said, "Is that only for the kids that brought you a present, because I have something for you I just left it at home" :rotfl2:
I assured him that he didn't have to bring me anything and that there was a gift for everyone.

As a Kinder teacher I go all out for Christmas. My kids make ornaments, cards, frames, jingle bell neclaces, candy cane reindeer and their very own stocking. I also put a book in each stocking, with a label that says "Feliz Navidad-Mrs. Clemente".

I have been giving ornaments (sometimes personalized) to my students for Christmas. Lately I have been getting them from LTD Commodities in sets of 6 or 8. They usually average $1 or less each and are very cute. Almost all of our students celebrate Christmas but there is usually a snowman or something more winter than holiday for those who don't. They also have cute bags to put the ornaments or other treats in.
At the end of the year I go to the dollar store and usually get some kind of outdoor toy. Last year, though I got UNO cards which they loved.:teacher:

Have him make some fun bookmarks! 8.5 x 11 cardstock cut 6x1.5 or 6x2. Put a fun sticker on the cardstock, punch a hole at the top and thread a ribbon through the hole.

I made bookmark magnets for all of the teachers at my daughter's school. Cut cardstock 6x1.5. Fold in 1/2 so you have a 3x1.5 strip. Cut a little piece of self adhesive magnet and put one piece on each side (making sure that the two pieces don't "repel" each other"). Decorate the same way as the others with a sticker or something.

This won't help this year but next fall have him pick up extra crayons, glue, etc when they have them really cheap before school starts. Then save them to make Christmas treat bags. By that time the kids need new supplies and he'll have a great inexpensive gift.

For my 7 - 8 graders I give a pencil and a free homework pass they can use any day in December right after Thanksgiving. Dec is so busy and I want them to be able to take a Homework break if they need a night off. At the Christmas Party I just bring some treats and maybe a soda for each of them.
