gifts for adults for FE gift exchange

Do you have a picture of your FE after you replaced the "Magic" with "Wonder"? I would love to see it! :D

Haven't done it yet. The wording was done on cardstock with my Cricut and while it is adhered pretty good, it can be peeled off without leaving residue. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow! I was thinking about working on it soon. I also need to fix one of the Mickey heads at the ends of the dowel rod. It broke on the way home! :sad1:

we only had 5 people in our exchange, so I was able to spend a bit more and gave each room a bottle of our local wine. Everyone seemed to appreciate it!

Oh wow! You did that on cardstock? That's awesome!

Has anyone ever just used a tote bag, etc., for their FE? I have looked at the FE's on EBAY and they are sooo cute but wondered if anyone just goes on the cheap? Do not want to look too tacky but would like to save a few $$'s where I can.....

Yep - I just made a little iron-on transfer and slapped it on a $2 denim tote bag from the craft store. Done. ;)

I have seen just the paper totes or gift bags used also. Anything goes!!

We do. Get a cheap one from the dollar store or similar, then personalize it with glitter glue, fabric markers, etc. Make sure to personalize it so no one decides to walk off with it. Unfortunately it happens :sad2:

Glad to hear this-I just got an adorable Mickey Xmas Tote for my crise in December. So a "normal" size totebag will fit?

This year we are doing pirate shot glasses with the Konk Cooler recipe (since pirate night is the night before CC and the Konk Cooler is DCL/CC drink:woohoo:

I would be hesitant to put anything with any alcohol content in it in FE's. Who knows who is going to be walking by and grab them...teens included. I love the idea, but not so sure it's a great one. Too many chances of the stuff ending up in the wrong hands.

I agree. I wondered how leaving little alcohol bottles would work, and of course I wouldn't complain but I'm "of age". :rolleyes1 This is our 1st cruise, 1st FE and I might be a distrusting soul, but I could see little teenage hands browsing through a packed full FE on a door. Sure would hate to see DCL have to regulate the FE's because of a young person getting ahold of alcohol. I think it's a great idea, but personally I would try to hand deliver that particular gift and break FE tradition. IMO.

So I'm new to all of this and completely clueless! I think I get the basic idea of how the FE exchange works but have a few questions. There are probably some basic common sense type rules and I just don't know where to look.

Is the fish hook thing already outside your door or do you purchase that and put it up? How is that done? Doesn't Disney frown upon people attaching things to the walls, doors, etc.?

I assume people connect through the cruise meets section. How is it determined who you will exchange with? Is it with everyone who is involved? How often is this done? Is there some sort of spending limit? What types of items are given? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

We just came off the Wonder a few weeks ago and participated in an FE exchange. First..some ideas for the adults..life savers with personalized wrappers made on your home computer...personalized pens and pens...pirate night stuff is always fun for any age...small photo albums...chocolate bars with personalized labels...small bottles of purell.
Second..my DD and I fastened together 4 small canvas tote bags that we had decorated using iron-ons. They came out really cute. I actually used velcro to secure them together..I am NOT one to sew things!
Third...we had a TON of teenagers on our cruise and nothing was taken that I know of from any of the bags in our group. It's always a concern but not a real big one. For the little bottles..if you choose to do that..I would wrap them in something so they aren't necessarily easy to identify..I don't think you will have a problem.

The metal fish outside the door is there for DCL (or anyone) to leave notes, envelopes etc. for the stateroom. So the FE's are made to hook over the fish (thus 'extending' it) for the gift exchange. People usually use a zip tie to secure it, because some have walked away in the past (just be sure you have something to clip the zip tie when you leave).

Each meets group sets up their own system for the exchange, but generally you bring a little something to give to each stateroom in the exchange. Some of the cruises with larger groups of DISers may do an exchange just for kids or a separate one for adults. We have even had FE 'teams' where several people have gotten together to purchase something for everyone...like supplying the lanyards for everyone, or making mousepads or dry erase boards with the cruise 'logo'. Some large groups have also split up into several exchanges, to keep the cabin count low.

Don't think there is usually as set amount as we all want everyone to be able to participate and just a 'little something' is all you need to give. No one would want someone to not participate (especially for the sake of the kids) because they are traveling on a tight budget. Many DISers are VERY creative and make some fabulous stuff and some enjoy the whole thing so much, they give to everyone in the cabin and spend whatever they want.
