We are taking out 2 nieces to WDW for the first time in May. We would like to purchase something for them to take to their classmates. They each have 22 kids in class. Any ideas for something cheap that would staisfy kids of 9 and 6?

I tutor children in reading and have a lot of students as well as small friends. When I was at EPCOT I found great small coloring books for free up by the turnstiles. I asked before taking a bunch and they were glad to oblige. The kids loved those small reminders of Disney World and were glad I thought of them. I also bought some of the Mickey lollipops at my local Dollar General store. Was about ten cents apiece. Since I buy the books I teach with, the ones at the school are boring and out of date, I do not have a lot of money to spend unwisely.

The light in a child's eye when they finally 'get it' is the most wonderful sight of all.

Not sure how much you wanted to spend but, for something very INexpensive...last year we got my 9 year old daughter's class each a wdw pencil. They were in packs of 10 or 8 (I can't remember) for a couple of dollars per pack... They like them. We also bought a couple of boxes of the Mickey face macaroni and cheese for her friends (and us) to try. They make unique little souvenires. Just a thought...

Last year we gave each child a different pressed penny, and taped them to a WDW post card.
You can always get idea's within your budget once you are there as well.
Have a great time.

Another idea is to visit the Walmart near the 12 mile marker on 192 if you have a car. The Florida and Disney souveniers are more affordable there. You may be able to find better priced pencils and postcards.

Twisty drinking straws that form mickey "ears" were, I believe, less than $1.00 each.

At the World of Disney Store at DTD, they are always handing out Mickey stickers at the door when you go in.

We usually ask if we can have enough for the entire class (25) and they have always obliged.

Cool souvenir and free!

Most of the Disney Stores in your local malls are having their semi annual sale. I just bought 20 princess plastic figures filled with candy for $0.99 each. You can't tell they are not from WDW or DL. Also there are plenty of outlet malls in WDW that are easy to travel too if you have transportation. Have Fun and Enjoy princess:

I had 6 coworkers to buy for, so I bought a pack of Disney World Ink Pins (contained 6 pens, each had a different park scene and character on it) from the little shop that is at the end of Future World and it was only a couple of dollars. Then I went to the Character Warehouse at the Belz Outlet in Orlando and bought each of them a pin for 99 cents each. If you dig through the pins, most of them had Mickey and a couple of characters on it and would say something underneath like "Orlando", "Florida", "Friend", etc. They had many pins that had names underneath, but I wasn't lucky enough to find six pins with all six co-workers names.

We bought the big bag of mickey shaped pretzels ($3.95) for our kids to take to their classes. Granted, it's not a souvenir to keep but both kids loved sharing them with their friends and both teachers gave positive feedback.

Hi BooMc,
I like the pretzel idea. Do you remember where you bought them?
Thanks!

Here is a tip i got from this board.(I have been a lurker since Sept. planned an awsome trip in Nov. with all of your help! Just got the guts up to post!) My daughter turned 8 in Nov. while we where at Disney (yes she got the Bday pins at all the parks thanks to you all!) I got rolls of quarters and lots of shiney pennys and pressed pennys. You know they will want to do it anyway and its a cheap gift. My daughters teachers thought i was amazing! the kids loved them. My daughter randomly passed them out and the kids loved trading them if they didn't like the one they got. Its lots of fun. Have a great trip!

I also bring back the pretzels, you can get them in the resort gift shops, as well as DTD. They also have some great Mickey cookies.
Kevin's teacher lets him pass them out at snack time and tell the class about his trip.:sunny:

Yep, hotel gift shops or the World of Disney. I'm told that each classmate got seconds (and some had thirds) so I guess they liked them!

These are great ideas! We're planning a family vacation in December with nieces and nephews and they would love to take something back to their classmates and share about WDW! What a great thread! Thank you!:Pinkbounc

Our DD brought back the Mickey shaped cheese crackers (goldfish type crackers) to share with her Kindergarten class last year. This year she said she's gettin' the pretzels.
