sorey if this is a dumb question, but this will be our first ever trip and I have no idea about what to expect. I have heard that if you are staying on property that if you buy something at the gift shop you can have it send straight to your room instead of having to carry it around? Is this true? If so, how do you do this?

You don't have it sent back to your room but back to your resort. Once you buy something and are checking out, ask for the item to be sent back to the resort. You will be given a small form to fill out and that will be attached to the bag and you will have a copy of it as well. So, know your room number each time J. The bag will be sent to your resort gift shop and you just go there and pick it up. You will need the receipt and a photo ID when you fetch it. Also note that this cannot be done the day before you leave the resort as it could be the next day when the item is delivered.

Ok, thank you! Will there be an extra charge for this service or do I need to tip anyone for this?

Normally, your package is not going to be in the gift shop any earlier than 3 the next afternoon. Make sure you take your receipt with you to the gift shop to pick it up. If it is the day before you are leaving just have it sent to the gate and you can grab it before you leave the park, that way you don't have to carry it around with you.

I do not know when you are going but if it is very busy it can take up to 48 hours to get thing to your resort gift shop most of the time it will be 24 hours if you find something on your last day ( or 2 to last day) and you do not have time to have it sent to your hotel you can ask them to send it to the front of the park as they all have package pick up I think this only need about 4 hours ( the CM can tell you when you are there. and it might depend on how busy they are. but I love this service such a good thing ( well Mayne not because I buy more things with this service)

I might mention that any shop will also ship your purchase to your home, but there is a charge for this and it can get pricey. If you're buying something large that you don't want to deal with getting through security and on a plane, it's a worthwhile option.

We did this when my son bought a cap "rifle" in Frontier Land. It would have probably fit in our checked baggage but we opted not pack it. So we shipped it home and it arrived about a week after we got home. Shipping cost was based on the price of the item (this was 2015) and I think it was around $12.00. WE thought it was worth it.

Some years ago we bought several of the monorail accessory toy sets, they were too cumbersome to take on the plane so we shipped them home. The shipping tab was very high--I want to say $60 or more, but these things arrived in several big boxes and it was worth it. Also bought a bunch of stuff at the Disney Outlet store and had it shipped home, several things were missing and it was nearly impossible to get it straightened out but I finally did. Shipping from the parks though, no prob.:earsboy:

and do not be surprised if it ends up at another resort. I had a purchase that went to CSR instead of CBR. but..they were super great about it. It was at the gift shop the next morning.
Just letting you know my experience. That was the only time I had that happen but we were afraid we wouldn't get what we bought before we left. Again..they were very good about tracking it down and getting it back.

However, if you're staying in a club level room, they actually do deliver to your room instead of the gift shop.

While I am a huge fan of the package pickup, one thing I never do is send edibles anymore. A few times we sent things back, of the chocolate variety, and they didn't do well with the Florida heat and were fairly melted haha. No big deal, but just something to keep in mind! Otherwise this service is fantastic, especially for fragile purchases!

Anytime I've tried to ship something edible back to my resort I've been told that it can't be done. Exactly because of the reason you called out: the heat. That's too bad because I definitely don't want to carry melting chocolate around all day so I end up not buying any chocolate items. :(

The gift shops will also send your items to the front of the park so you can pick them up on the way out. I'm not sure how long that takes at the end of the night, though.

Getting Disney treats to take home is a priority for us. We'll buy them as we exit a park and take them to the resort. They get packed in carry-on bags as gingerbread Mickeys can break in transit. For other examples of how to get Disney treats home without mailing please see the movie Midnight Express.":earboy2:

Also, if you buy a bottle of wine somewhere or anything else alcoholic, they will not send that back to the resort either. You can send it to the front of the park to pick it up on your way out or carry it around. We know from experience of buying two bottles of grapefruit wine at the Food & Wine Festival.
