My philosophy on gift giving is that I will buy whatever I think that person might want or need. Once I've given the gift they are free to keep it, return it, give it to someone else--I don't care. I hope they like what I give them (and in most cases that has been true), but I can't know for sure if the gift was exactly the right size or color or brand or whatever. It does not hurt my feelings if they exchange it or re-gift it. I'd rather have someone re-gift or donate my gift then have it sitting in a drawer or closet doing no one any good. The gifts I give are exactly, positively that, a gift--with no strings and no necessary reciprecation(sp). What about everyone else?

I am pretty much on the same page as you. I also do not expect gifts in return or keep score about how much people spend on gifts, etc.

Me too. Just that someone thought of me means so much.

ITA except for the bolded. I make it a point to know their favorite color, store or brand. Size can be difficult since many times a M in one stype is a S in the next.
