Gift of Magic Ticket

Disney is offering a 4 day base ticket for $300 adult $270 child. It is non fefundable, expires I think May 27th 2017 and a couple weeks around Easter are blacked out. We are going last week in March for only 4 nights onsite so we could use this ticket. It would cost $573 for the 2 of us. we didn't really plan to hop or waterpark during this,short trip. I also have 2 seven day park hoppers I could upgrade to 2 AP's. That would cost $330 for the 2 of us but we would also get MM. I had wanted to upgrade those hoppers on our August 2017 trip so I can capture a summer of 2018 trip w it . if I upgrade at spring break It wouldn't even get me spring break in 2018. so I think I should buy the gift of magic ticket , but what if something happens last minute? maybe I should just buy a 3 day non expiring ticket from UT? What would u all do? Any other options I'm not realizing?

I think OP means that the multi-day tickets from UT (and Disney), if unused, do not expire. *** opposed to the special 4 day, 4 park promo ticket that has a date by which the ticket must be used.

OP, since you are hoping to get 2 summer trips out of an annual pass, I would save those 7-day tickets and use them to upgrade to AP whenever you are ready to begin the pass. If you know for sure you are going in March, and you know that you don't want/need to hop, then the promo ticket is a good deal. If you are unsure about the March trip and you don't want to be out the cost of the tickets, then perhaps for you, it would be a better deal to get a regular ticket from UT, Disney, or whoever else. You may pay a little more, but you also will not be out the cost of the ticket if you decide not to go in March and those tickets will be good for any future trip. Only you can make that call.
