My DH has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm not sure what to get him. We are on a strict budget right now and he has already declared that he doesn't want me spending money on a gift. I thought it would be nice for 7-month-old DS make him some kind of craft, but I'm not very artistic, and he's not really old enough to help. Any ideas? I was thinking of finger paints or something of that nature, but I'm open to other stuff too as long as it's cheap.

How about footprints/handprints on a stone or in a frame with name and date.

if you celebrate Christmas, a crafty Christmas ornament using hand or footprints is really nice. you can check pinterest for ideas or head to craft store and I'm guessing they would have something. even just taking a plain Christmas ball, and doing a handprint on it, and the date in glitter, would be simple yet very special.

I agree with doing a craft with your child's handprint or footprint.

In addition to that, you can print off photos at Walmart or other store that are just of your DH & DS together from birth until now and put them in a very inexpensive photobook or make one of the collages or calendars to have printed. They aren't "free", but it would only cost a few dollars.

I think this is adorable:

You could even do your footprint and baby's alternating, which would emphasize exactly how little he is.

salt dough ornament with baby's handprint or footprint in it. Easy cheap and dad will love it!

You could take a photo of baby and have him hold a sign that says 'I love you' or print out a thought bubble on someplace like MS Word and type something cute in it. Walgreens or CVS has pretty cheap photos you could print out, even larger ones that would be adorable.

My DH's birthday is in a few days and from DS I got him a father-son simple book for DH to read to DS. They are pretty cheap at someplace like half price books and once you bought art supplies for other ideas I think the price would be the same or even cheaper.

I happened to find a cute ornament at the mall when our DS was a baby. It's something like I love my daddy, and then you could insert a baby photo in it. My DH loved it, and now 15 years later it is still one of his favorite ornaments.

You could look for something like that, or even a "new family" ornament like this:

Best wishes for a wonderful first Christmas for your family!

There are many ideas on Pinterest - just search on baby art thumbprint, baby art fingerprint, or baby art footprint.

I like all of the handprint/footprint ideas! It looks like we could do the sun one without me needing to have any artistic prowess, too. I did try looking on pinterest but I didn't find much...I must have been using the wrong search terms?

Or he could hold a sign saying Happy (insert age) Birthday, then I love you Daddy. Now that would be cute. Oh and get someone to take the picture and put yourself in it holding a sign as well with a cute saying.
