I am havaing trouble making a list for gifts for my DS13 almost 14yr old. He has only asked for 2 things... a laptop and Madden 10 for PS3. What I'm having trouble with is the "cheaper" gifts. I usually put movie, starbucks, eating giftcards in their stockings, so I need some other ideas. DD11 is so easy,,, you can buy DS and Wii games for 14.99 but not PSP and PS3 :rolleyes1 so I need some of the less expensive things. Any ideas for :santa:?? So far this is what I have come up with: Itune gift card for $25, colonge, new cell phone cover, DVDs.
I can't wait until BF to get here :cool1: I am so ready to shop :surfweb:

Thanks!!

I second the pocket knife. My oldest loves his. We did a lot of investigating when buying. We learned to make sure to get one that's not made in china. They are much sturdier and the metal on the blades is thicker and not as apt to be made from composite metal.

He also likes his compass, and other outdoor gear.

Best buy had some PSP and PS3 games yesterday for $9.99.

and...from DS13 also soon to be 14's christmas list - Meat and Cheese from Hicory Farms :rotfl:

Also on his list

A new football jersey
Tickets to a pro-sports game.
a desktop pool table
an ipod dock with alarm clock feature

Every year I also get him one "collectable" item. Not something that's sold as a collectable like a bobblehead but a real collectable. He gets a 1950s Ted Williams baseball card and an antique metal soldier. If you hunt these types of things can be had for less than $10ea. I figure when his collection is complete it will actually be worth a lot of money.

oh and not to be forgotten the screaming flying monkey (huge hit last year and worth every penny of the $3 I paid for them) or other gag gift for the stocking.

Does he have an Xbox? Microsoft Points (to purchas upgrade points for games) or an Xbox Live membership would go a long way.

Pocket knives are not well received around here. You cant carry them around in school or you will be suspended quicker than anything. (I have a 14 year old boy-- I know they would accidently take it to school and all would be over!)

The pocket knife Idea is not a good could cause lots of problems for teens ant this age. Give him some money or his own cell phone or a new one.

I disagree with the pocket knife not being a good idea. My DS15 has one and loves it (he's had it since he was 10). He's into scouting and the outdoors and it was a great investment. You just have to stress where it is appropriate to have it and where it is not acceptable. My DS10 will be getting one this Christmas, as he is moving to Boy Scouts this year.

I also would think twice about the pocket knife. If they leave it in their pocket acccidently= instant suspension, no explanations allowed.

Maybe a t-shirt or CD of his favorite group, headphones or a case for his ipod or MP3 player, a baseball cap if he wears them. If he's into any magazines, a subscription to one, sunglasses if he wears them. DS never seems to want anything "small", so he will get his big items and then stocking stuff.

I hear your pain! My 14 yo dss is hard to buy for. First, his mom buys him hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for Xmas and Bday...so most of his wish list is off limits to us. And second because everything he wants is expensive. We're splitting the cost of an Ipod Touch this year, which he'll really love. But for little things so far I have:

Ornament (I get each of our kids and my dh one every year)
RC Star Trek Enterprise (he and my dh love Star Trek)
American Eagle shirt from Marshall's and a cool Batman shirt from Kohl's
Beatles Rock Band.

My best friend got him a Mythbusters kit, one that makes a marshmallow shooter. It's silly, but he'll get a kick out of making it and shooting marshmallows with his 4 yo brother.

I'm suggesting to my sister to get him a GC for accessories for the Touch. He has 2 homes (ours and his moms) so a 2nd charger is always a great thing for him. And I'm thinking a cover to help keep it from breaking.

And there must be some kind of 'app' gift card right? I have to look into that. That's another idea.

Good luck!

I love the idea of a special collectible each year, and a pretty complete collection over time! That is so thoughtful!

Here are some more ideas:

* wallet
* watch (perhaps with a carabiner clip to attach to backpack or belt loop)
* beef jerky
* sports cards (baseball, football, etc)
* frame to display sports cards (check out AC Moore w/a coupon!!)
* hat
* sunglasses
* book or magazine subscription

For the PS3, is there a way to purchase a gift card or add funds to his PlayStation Network account? This way he could use the money to download games (or songs, if he has something like SingStar).

Thanks for the suggestions! I went to target today and couldn't find hardly anything for DS13 but tons for DD11 ;) Girls are so much easier to buy for.... we girls like everything in every color :laughing: I did find a PSP game on the clearance for 9.98 :banana: so I grabbed that. Maybe when I can "see" the BF ads more will jump out at me.

My 14 year old DS finally made a list the other day. I was surprised by it. He wants some of those Nerf guns with the darts (he put 4 different ones on his list) and a Hess truck (he gets one every year). And that was all that he wants. We did buy him the Flip camcorder. I didn't really expect to see toys on there. Oh, and he also wanted a couple of DS games and an X-Box game.

Now, if anyone has suggestions for items under $25 or so for my 19 year old DD, I will take them. So far, I got her Taylor Swift tickets (2) , the Taylor Swift CD - Fearless (even though she has it, this one has a few additional songs), and I got her a Taylor Swift concert book. I also got her a Tran Siberian Orchestra CD. The only thing I can think of is clothes. And to make matters worse, she just had a birthday last week!
