The past two nights we stayed at SSR with our DGS. The evening of our check-in a front desk person came over, delivered a note from the SSR manager and a tin with candies and trail mix inside. She stated we were getting this delivery in thanks for staying at this resort on our 12th visit to the resort.
We have never gotten this at other resorts in which we have stayed way more than 12 times.
We did not have any issues with check-in nor with the online check-in and text messages telling us our room was ready.
Is this something new?
Just pixiedust?

Some resorts give out gifts, there doesn't seem to be a standard or criteria on who or when receives the magic.

:earsboy: Bill

During our December stay, we received a gift from BWV management and in January as we left VB, we received a "going away" little gift.

These things make me smile and happy to be DVC!

I do not expect something every stay for sure.

not to jinx ourselves :), but we have received a "happy" our last few stays. last May at BLT, a white chocolate monorail, glass bottle of water, & some snacks were delivered. while at BWV last October, we were among a number of DVCers who received a white chocolate Mickey. (on previous BWV stays, we have returned to assorted chocolates, chocolate covered strawberries, etc in the room. one "surprise" was received while on a trip a few days after my Dad passed away - sent by a certain amazing, front desk CM. I can't come close to relating how much that caring gesture meant to us).
funny: no matter how many times a surprise has been left in our room, my reaction is the same: amazement, tears in my eyes, followed by an ear-to-ear grin every time I see, or think of, the "happy" :goodvibes

Isn't that sort of the point of "magic"?

If there was some standard formula for gift-giving, it's a glorified punch card system rather than a "magical" Disney surprise.

I disagree. Because those who get magic talk about it, and then those who don't get magic are sad.

It's why I like proper character meeting spots rather than having to magically be at the right place at the right time. There's order to it. (Though for me it's knowing what knoing what spots to avoid lol)

Nothing wrong with knowing what to expect!

I'll just disagree.

The little surprises that we've had over the years do far more to brighten our stays rather than researching every bit of so-called "magic" that's doled-out on a schedule, checking boxes off a list as we go. One of the unfortunate byproducts of the Internet has been the ability to share information, and Disney's inability to keep pace with the expectations that creates.

There's nothing wrong with holding character meets on a schedule. But not everything at WDW needs to be offered on a schedule. That's assembly-line "magic."

There is no specific reason. What typically happens (and this is coming from people I know that work at the hotels) is that a hotel manager may have set a specific budget for "pixie dust" and then when they have extra CMs or it is slow and they need something for the CMs to do to fill time (think of all those times where there are no guests at the hotel desks) they'll tell them to go make magic. Some CMs love to find any reason so they may go through the file and say cool anyone who has stayed with us more then 10 times, some may look through the roster and find anyone with a marked celebration, some may just put together the gifts and say okay the next group to come talk to me is getting pixie dusted.

Not DVC but we had it happen when we stayed at GF for our engagement. It wasn't pre-planed by any means we were just sitting in the lounge with our friends and the CM came over and after seeing our button asked if we would be there in 5 minutes. We said sure we could wait. 5 minutes later and he had a hat box full of GF chocolates and goodies. Had we not been in the lounge while he was being tasked to make magic we probably would not have gotten that hat box of goodies.

We got dusted during out last Kidani Village stay and except for this thread did not mention it.

Like TJ I like the randomness of it. I would never be sad over someone else receiving something I did not get. I pretty much would be sad all the time if that were the case.

We stay at BWV 4 times each year. In fact, we are here right now.
We have never received anything.:sad2: I guess there's always hope it will happen one day.

Only thing we've received is 2 small bottles of water at VGC last week when they were going to have the water turned off all night.

My wife and I were staying at Animal Kingdom last year for our 40th anniversary ... I noted it on our online check-in...: on the actual day of our anniversary(we honeymooned at Disneworld ) we arrived back to our room after a day at the parks and there was a GIANT gift basket with a Mickey and Minnie ..a Disney photo album..autograph book...chocolates...sparkling cider and two Disney flutes and a card wishing us the best.... I went to guest services to see if it was sent by someone and they said it was from the DVC Satisfaction team. Upon returning home I contacted them by phone to thank them and they said they often try to do things like that as a gesture of appreciation to members. We were both amazed and very greatful for the gifts. Members since 2007 AKV /BLT 2010. Travel twice a year to DW.. always have a great experience.

I think it's really cool! I love to hear about the magical little touches.

The problem with this is too many guests read this and go to WDW and complain they never have received anything, Disney gets enough complaints and then they stop it .
No one gets anything.
Don't think people don't complain, they do. You did for them so do for me.
