My neighbors 3 month old is being christened this weekend. We were invited but not able to attend, I would like to buy a nice gift though. What do you buy for a christening?

For my DS's christening, he received a savings bond from his godparents, money from other family members, a nice baptism picture frame, and a little stuffed bear that's on his knees and when you press his hand he says a prayer.

Bonds are nice, but make sure you send a card saying you've given a bond and the amount...sometimes you fill out the paper work and then the bond just arrives at the recipient's home (of course, with nothing that says who sent it.)

You can get a little "gift certificate" type thing at the bank when you buy the bond and stick that in the card. :D

If you want to go another way ... We have given many very nice Children's Bibles and Bible story books as Baptism gifts. I especially like Tomie Da Paola's. He is a wonderful illustrator.

For my daughters Christening she got cash, bonds and my cousin bought her a gold chain with a gold K on it.....I put all the money into her college fund.

I have a friend who makes embroidered baby blankets. They are absolutely gorgeous, and last forever. PM me if you would like her website (I don't know if I can post it here, or I would). I have bought them for many friends, and all my family who have had babies. That is what we give as a Christening gift now. She has many many designs and gift ideas.

a Christening Photo Album is what I always give

DS got bonds, cash, a cross with a little boy praying on it, rosary beads, christening stuffed animals, a christening candle, a plate with a cup and silverware that has the special day engraved.
He's almost 17 now and the cross and rosary beads are his favorite.

Stupid question(mainly because I could just do a search to find out) but what exactly is a Christening? :D

Christening is an infant baptism.

My niece will be christened next Sunday and we're Godparents. I'm glad I saw this thread because I am having a heck of a time figuring out what to give as a gift. I think the savings bond is an excellent idea.
